I have been working at Vcu Health System Authority full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent health insurance costs. Discount food in the cafeteria.

    Cons

Have to pay for parking downtown. Interim manager wants to change everything. Took away overtime and being able to work a longer day instead of having to use all your PTO. Have to use PTO when the clinic is closed. No holiday pay.

    Advice to Management

Don't allow interim mangers come in and disrupt the way an area is running. They are interim for a reason.

    Pros

The neurology residency PD is very passionate about resident education and is constantly trying to improve the experience for us. My fellow residents are excellent and fun to work with, as are all of the attendings. Most major sub-specialties are represented.

    Cons

1)VCUHS does not have a chairman (the residency director is the interim chair, and with a full clinical schedule he does a great job despite being spread very thin) 2)The program is very inpt heavy. There are not enough residents to handle the high (and growing) patient volume.

I worked at Vcu Health System Authority full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a small office with a staff of 6. The department has a Keurig coffee maker. They offer some flexibility with schedule, but not consistent unless you are the director.

    Cons

Hugely dysfunctional senior office management that does not oversee important issues like signed letters of agreement and payment from internal and external activities. The Director comes and goes as he pleases, makes a ton of money and gets numerous complaints from department chairs and program chairs. Those with good work ethics are punished and those who do not are allowed to abuse the system.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dead weight at the top. Stop hiring associate deans who rarely come to work, yet are paid a 6 figure salary. Offer early retirement to the Director who does little to nothing. Hire someone with a vision and then oversee their results, not just the sunshine they blow your way in board meetings.

I have been working at Vcu Health System Authority full-time

    Pros

Teaching hospital with an awesome Nurse residency program, which is perfect for new graduate nurses.

    Cons

Located in the metropolitan area of Richmond so the rent around the hospital is on the high side. of course as always you should shop around.

    Advice to Management

I think the management at the hospital is spectacular, they are there to work with you and to help you accomplish your goals.
