Current Employee - Senior Manager Site Acquisition in Bloomington, MN

I have been working at VelociTel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I led and managed direct and indirect site acquisition agents/managers as well as A&E and Regulatory on the aggressive Turf 2.0 build schedule. The management structure was set up in such a way that I had the freedom to develop people and processes that met and exceeded objectives. We streamlined reporting so that we could focus on the work. I only left the company due to a major philosophical difference I had with the former COO, and overall we parted on good terms.

    Cons

As the company began to transition its key management structure and personnel from the top town, the transition was a bit awkward and painful as one would expect.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your front-line managers in market report to you. Use that information as a check and balance in developing longer term strategies. I left the company prior to the arrival of new management so I don't have visibility to whether or not this advice is being implemented.

    Pros

Employees that know how to get the job done, work as a team and resource balance.. A company that promotes thinking outside of the box.

    Cons

No formal training for the job, lack of consistant processes and procedures in place, breakdowns in communication and not the best benefits.

    Advice to Management

Communication needs to be better between departments, offices and with upper management. A formal training program needs to be developed.

    Pros

My manager was the best of the best.

    Cons

Sr. and C-class Leadership is unqualified to run a successful business. Nepotism to the extreme. Family members hired when it's clearly against company policy. From the most successful year in company history to major layoffs in less than 6 months.

    Advice to Management

    It's not all about you.

    Pros

Flexible work days, nice location, relatively good pay, nice personnel, fun work environment, good benefits, good health insurance at the time.

    Cons

The type of work seemed to be always the same, no opportunities for growth, or low growth opportunities, the market is very small and it didn't allow for different type of projects and management styles.

    Pros

The only good thing about this company is the fact you get to travel

    Cons

Mostly all aspects, there is no management and whoever is supposed to be managing could probably do better at a wendys. The lack of respect to employees that basically ruin his or her life working in the field is obscene. If you treat the people that work for you like dogs, you might think they would bite once in a while. Terrible pay for what the work entitles, unrealistic work loads, they seem to base the work day off of how they feel when they come in in the morning. There is no plan of execution and no one knows what is going on or what they are doing. TURDS.
R.I.P Bill Z…..it would be better if you were still here.

    Pros

some of the people are great but they often leae for better opportunitues

    Cons

They do not pay their employees what they are worth and in turn lose many great contributors. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Management should be at the local level, never at the corporate leve, they know nothing about the people that have contributed to their success and do not respect the management at the local level and do not trust them to manager their local office.

    Pros

Worked with some great people. Benefits were good and pay seemed fair all round. Working environment was better at the end but very cramped before expansion.

    Cons

From the outset I felt as though I had to constantly watch my back. It was as though something was said before I started that had everyone against me. In each position that I was assigned I was never told if I was doing good or bad. And never given guidance on how to improve. There was no training except for that mandated by OSHA or other safety concerns.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like 3rd grade students. Give them challenges and let them learn from them.

    Pros

Some very nice people to work with, but not many. Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

From day one the management and peers worked to make me feel like an outsider. Every responsibility that I was handed was disparaged with no path for improvement or advice given.

    Advice to Management

The only management that I had any contact with was at the local branch level. These people seemed to operate on a minute to minute plan. I never had the feeling that our work was appreciated beyond just being there 8 hours a day. Scott Adams could get tons of new material.
