I have been working at Venture full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

You are provided a number of opportunities to learn a wide variety of duties. The pay is not the best and the hours can be long.

    Cons

Highly stressful on occasion. But what job isn't. No real bonuses.

I worked at Venture full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I did learn some new aspects within purchasing. Also it was very useful to learn SAP a very powerful ERP system.
Some of the people/co-workers were a delight to work with.
If you can endure this place for more than 1 year you can work anywhere! It doesn't get worse than this...

    Cons

It was a volatile environment with people not communicating professionally and yelling at you.
The pay was low for the volume of work that was given to you.
Most of the job did not utilize the SAP program to its maximum potential. Most things were done with Excel spreadsheets. Buyers have no purchasing approval authority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Opportunities exist for employees who wants to perform well.
    Fair remuneration scale.

    Cons

Personal interest of some senior management interferes with their work and objectivity.
Management style is too top down at times.
Should try to be more inclusive with employees and listen to their inputs and provide more feedback loop.

    I worked at Venture

    Pros

I was able to use every talent that I had, and i always felt appreciated for contributing to daily functions

    Cons

There was a lot of overtime that was unrewarded because of the nature of the budget. It's okay until you are doing it all the time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just keep treating your employees well, and when the option is available, do offer them financial incentives and bonuses (whenever that may be)

I have been working at Venture

    Pros

    Friendly staff
    Good engineering team
    Very flexible working conditions
A good place to start working

    Cons

Company morale for non-managers tends to be very low
    No clear career advancement paths
Lacking corporate support for US locations
    Benefits and salary are lacking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and employee teams are out of touch. Look to grow company wide instead of just meeting the status quo. Work on employee satisfaction, there seems to be little to no pride for employment in the company.

I have been working at Venture

    Pros

    1. Several good team working level support with lesser politic
    2. Smart pple and strong working levels comraderie
    3. Currently stable company despite business challeges

    Cons

    1. Long time middle management level very weak, cover their behind approach with partitioning politics playing on working team. Venture need new blood from outside to replace them to change toward growth and competitive arena against industry's best.
    2. Old timer middle managers using isolation of execs to the working level and control working team to stay same and resist new industry ideas without even understanding the depth of details.
    3. Above 2 make most see a too much top down only decision, while reality even basic toilet usages, coffee for execs, inedible canteen foods for decent health, heavily polluted air & working environment shielded to the top execs with no idea what the working level see feel of inhumane frugality experienced daily. Save the penny and waste the dollar as such in reality.
    4. Keep thinking tech talent alone as true naiveness without seeing how redundant yet segregated these tech teams are in Venture. Consolidate and save for the cross working levels more than only tech alone, then engs can run with all other groups supports full heartedly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes and ears to the working levels and obtain the truth to feel and make decision more than among execs alone - who are totally shielded by old timer inflexible middle management that stops new ideas and efforts as their working habit. Been here for many years and seeing the same nonsensical no improvement effort at all, thus will leave the moment got an offer outside.

I have been working at Venture full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    1. Great working environment. Always hear fun and laughter. I mean everyday!

    2. Depends on the department, R&D has very little politics. If there is, it is always about getting job done.

    3. Great learning environment. Never heard of people got fired for making mistakes even it cost the co millions so long one try his best to fix it.

    4. Career path is really up to individual to carve it. Work hard, promote fast, lazy want work life balance, normal or mediocre career path. Really up to individual.

    5. Supportive and understanding management. I bet with my last dinosaur dollar, you won’t find a better management than this one.

    6. Reasonable bosses. Corporate tyranny is not an acceptable culture. Never try to pull rank here. You die very fast. But if someone does pull rank with you means, you better get the job done quickly.

    7. Cordial work environment. It cannot be more cordial than the fruit punch.

    8. Salary depends entirely up to individual. Want get high pay, see shxt do the shxt job, see problem take up the fire hose and put it out the first fast. The company will pay and reward you well.

    9. Family friendly. If your child or pregnant wife is sick, we understand. Pls go and take care of them first. Come back just work double hard to pay back .

    10. Depends on department and individual. If one have been delivering his work well, flexibility is “unlimited”. But if one's work is bad and keep delay schedule, etc, sorry.. he will be watched UNLIMITED!

    11. It is a company that focus a lot of engineering skills with lots of subject matter expertises.

    12. Good annual bonus. Where to find this kind of bonus these days?

    13. A company that treasures talent. If you are a talent, you resign and can come back and resign and come back and resign and comeback and stay on!

    14. Good profitable and cash flow company that ensure job security.

    15. Only the best people thrived here. Venture R&D talents are highly sort after. Other companies pay premium to attract their talents.

    Cons

    1. Current health care benefit is lousy. May need to top up for medical bills for seeing doctor.

    2. Poor Co Insurance. Better buy your own when you travel for business.

    3. The more capable you are, the more busy. The less capable you are, less busy.

    4. The higher you go, the worse the stress. Depends on your health, when reached certain level better stop.

    5. Low leveraging because it is top heavy.

    6. Glass ceiling and career for very technical people. So come in first few years learn to work. Next few years better learn to talk and learn more presentation skills.

    7. Because of its business nature, work scope and R&R very unclear. Only clear to the top but blur at the bottom.

    8. Decision is always at the very top. I mean the pinnacle.

    9. Career path can be challenging. Yes you can carrve it but you can be uncurved if you got no talking and presentation skills, Same everywhere.

    10. Very conservative management. Liken a bird in the hand, squeeze scared it die, let go scared it fly!

    11. Very hard work for many projects for everyone at every level.

    12. Work load not uniformly distributed. It is very much depends on the nature of business and project

    13. It is a very very very very very very very very frugal company.

    14. For what it is, it is a no frills company. It is a pro for shareholders and customers, and a con for employees.

    15. Those who keep hyping about career planning etc. pls go join stat board. This place is about you able to fight it out and strive to move up. No career planning at all. Jiro.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Venture has arrived to where it is for the past many years due to its great management competency and legacy. Future cannot depend on what work in the past and apply them for the future. To maintain the status quo, no change is needed. However to expect exponential growth based on old system and methods IMO is doubtful.

Talents it has now need to be maintained else attrition of technical stuff will erode the company core competency. In this industry it is not easy to hire people who have so much wealth of knowledge experience accumulated in the 90s and 20s of HP days. The challenges also because young people do not want to do engineering. Low leveraging is it's achilles heel.

Management can always hire. Talented engineers once gone.. they are gone.. many went into property, academics, sell char kuay tiao, drive taxi, do forex trading, do online business and gone forever.

The smart people are not always up there at the top, some are down there, your engineers. You need to involve them in your business and wealth creation. Even allow some things just don't make profit initially just to seed them. Some of the most talented engineers quit to start their own business and are self employed doing better in terms of their income.

Finally, pay does not solve every problem. Work scope and allowing the people to scale up and have more ownership in decision making process will motivate many.

This is my most honest opinion even though it may become 忠言逆耳
