    Pros

young environment, recent college grads, awesome cafe, parking, nice area.

    Cons

the training and orientation that this place provide is horrible !!! never seen such poor training in my life and then they expect you to get on the phones by your 3rd day there. it's interesting what they do but unless you want to spend your whole life making cold calls getting hung up and getting threatened then this must be the perfect place for you!

    Advice to Management

    stop being so snobby.

    Pros

The pros are few and far apart. This is a nice company to start your career, if you need it. You gain insight into the "behind the scenes" of the market research industry, but you will learn all there is to know within a few weeks.

    Cons

Where to begin? The management is absolutely horrible and their techniques are outdated. Micromanagement is used frequently at this company. The turnover ratio is high as management does not value employees (honestly, the job is easy to do, which is why they can easily replace you). Use this job as income while you seek other, better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Show your team that you care. Being passive aggressive and withholding valuable feedback does not help your employees. They need to know if they are doing something wrong to fix it and improve. Otherwise you will be stuck with a young and unskilled staff.

    Pros

your colleagues, if you're luck you'll work with people just as unhappy as yourself. They are all that you have in this game. The only benefit is being able to come in, work your hours and leave, unless of course you might 'gasp' have to go to the doctors or anything and then you're making up every lost minute of it.

    Cons

Intensive micromanagement, next to no career progression, terrible benefits, churns through employees, low social cohesion, poor management

    Advice to Management

Start caring, at least try to empower the good employees that you have

    Pros

The people at Verbatim are almost always great and composed mainly of people in their early to mid 20s. Management does a good job selecting sociable people as they are most effective at filling the duties. Though the job duties are highly monotonous, management is sensitive to this and so workload expectations are not overly taxing. This is a great starter environment and a good place to cut your teeth and make professional mistakes that would get you fired elsewhere. Wages are low but commensurate to required skills and work expectations - expect 34 - 38k based on experience for a researcher position as a full-time employee. Exceptions are probably made for people who are making a career out of conducting telephone surveys.

    Cons

The nature of the business does not lend itself to advancement opportunities. This is easily deduced by anyone with half a brain, so rather than label this as a con or a flaw in the business I would say it is more of a warning - don't get too comfortable. Again, management is sensitive to this and I would not say employees are led to believe they can build a life-long career at Verbatim. The position is entirely cold-calling and survey interviewing. There are occasional expectations to work on weekends and holidays.

The review posted Jun 21 is NOT accurate regarding caliber of employee, pay, dynamic nature of the position, 'poaching' (in 3 years I never heard of a single employee being actively approached by the employer they left Verbatim for), or pretty much anything in the review. This is what we call TROLLING on the internet.

    Advice to Management

Reinstate the rigid requirement of a college degree for employment. Give employees a simple literacy test prior to employment. Urge human resources and ownership to play less of a role in the operations of the company. Don't allow the sister company to utilize resources as this is a major deterrent. Give the employees free coffee and make them feel like part of a team as it was in the past. Relocate the business west again in its own office space and don't try to compete with hundreds of other companies for staff who are offering higher pay and more dynamic positions with opportunity for growth.

    Pros

Very easy work and management is nice, but it's just a front!

    Cons

Very repetitve. If you want to see your life washed away making phone calls for the rest of your life then you deserve this job.

    Advice to Management

Create room for growth. There are other things to do then to make phone calls.

    Pros

A lot of top talent comes out of this firm. Most junior level researchers are from middle to top tier schools. Average salary is about $80,000-$85,000, The intricate nature of the investment research attracts the big firms to poach the junior level talent here pretty often. Most researchers after a couple years use the analytical experience to spring board themselves into a MBA from an "Ivy". Best and brightest is a common used term during the training of a new researcher class. Being a fairly new firm it is hard for management to match every single offer its employees get from outside firms.

    Cons

The office building is located in a renovated office park that used to a mill. It is a little out dated and it would probably serve the company well to find alternative space.

    Pros

Collegial work environment, open door policy with management, focus more on productivity than metrics (call volume, talk time, etc.), If you do well you have an opportunity to come on full-time.

    Cons

Currently there are limited advancement opportunities for researchers and no clear outline on how to move up. The office location isn't the best.

    Advice to Management

Create a detailed path/paths to advancement for researchers.

    Pros

    Semi-relaxed office environment.
    Friendly coworkers
Call volume is not overly demanding, management focuses more on productivity

    Cons

    Low pay
    Boring and repetitive work
They require a college degree but the work isn't that advanced at the beginning.

    Advice to Management

Show respect to all employees. Management shows favoritism when punishing or rewarding employees. Consistently late employees may be eligible for employee of the month while others may be reminded of work hours when arriving just a few minutes late.

    Pros

    Nice staff and flexible time

    Cons

The Direction has very poor people skills and, in many times, presents unethical attitudes. The company often offer jobs with different titles and tasks and the new employee only realizes that whenever starts working there. The nature of the job is very monotonous and there is no space for growth in the company. Average market wage. Company has no culture or values.
