    Pros

The promise of their new cloud service offering is highly compelling...once it is fully released.

    Cons

Micromanagement has become oppressive, and far too much infighting amongst the groups.

    Advice to Management

They need a dynamic CEO...don't see the current one having the backbone to lead the effort in a productive, prioritized manner. Only 1 in 5 staff who posted here approve of the CEO. That's not the sort of leader Verio needs now.

    Pros

I enjoyed the company prior to Verio and found it just fine after. (Worked for a company that was purchased by Verio which in turn was purchased by NTT.)

    Cons

As comes with acquisitions, there was a general chaos around where the good people would fit in the new business, and as one would expect, people in the larger cities were given much more weight than long timers in smaller cities. (Chicago/NYC vs. Detroit/Cleveland, etc.)

    Advice to Management

This review is recent, but the experiences are so old I wouldn't know much about what's going on now. Left in 2000 and kept tabs through 2005-ish

    Pros

Some great people do/did work here and the local leadership tries to make improvements

    Cons

Overall SLT is so far removed from the needs of the company and employees that it's almost impossible to have your input valued. They refuse to make the needed upgrades to stay competitive and keep their customer's happy. The development teams, especially on the Windows side, are a joke and work harder at pointing fingers at anyone else than actually doing their job. There have been numerous layoffs in the past five years that it is almost inevitable that another one will happen. They keep the needs of the Japanese market at the forefront of their business plan without regard that what works there doesn't in the US and sales/technologies will fail.

    Advice to Management

Change the attitude that quid pro quo is going to work. Change the leadership and work to actually satisfy your customers and employees in order to build loyalty. Without customers there is no business. Without talented employees, there are no customers.

    Pros

The people in the trenches are some of the best people in the world and years after working there they are still some of my best friends.

    Cons

Shenanigans with pay scales. I've seen many people get what they thought was a promotion only to find it to be a lateral move with a minimal raise.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing games with your peole. Either pay them and treat them right or you are going to loose great talent.

    Pros

The pros to working at Verio consist of...

    - Competitive salaries
    - Pleasant, if rather mundane and cramped workspaces
    - Plenty of camaraderie among workmates
    - Many local eateries and services

    Cons

Among the downsides to working at Verio are...

    - The workspaces are generic corporate "cubes" and small offices.
    - The company always seems to be one step behind regarding web hosting technology
    - The management structure is inflexible
    - Corporate downsizing always seems to be a worry among employees

    Advice to Management

    Advice to Verio's management...

    - Nix the stuffy corporate image. Fashion an image that's more in line with the "out of the box" thinking and creativity of today's youth. Verio seems to be stuck in a 1990's marketing persona.
    - Try to do better to remove the wall between management and employees. The managerial mindset often makes subordinates feel like inferiors and not fellow Verio employees.
    - Don't rely so much on ViaVerio. Reel in the partner program, concentrate on the core business and develop it and it's products imaginatively.
