Proud to be a VH employee!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) South Jordan, UT

ProsGreat benefits, management cares about their employees, descent pay, flexibility with personal time. Super training and educational opportunities. Growth opportunities are available to employees who work at advancing. Most of all our company is providing a great service to the healthcare industry and public.

ConsBecause it is a constantly growing company, there are challenges associated with change, but that's a good thing on the most part. I feel it is time for leadership to continue on a steady, smooth path; employees have experienced enough major changes and need to concentrate on getting the job done rather than what new policies are in place, or where their department is being moved to next.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior Leadership, please keep up the good work, but remember to really support the life/work balance and ensure your managers and their direct reports are getting the breaks they need to do a great job and not get burned out.

    A Struggling messed up organization

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsBagels, coffee, soda, and location

ConsOnce upon a time this was a great place to work. But not anymore. The leadership is hopeless. Most of the good leaders have left. The current leaders are not engaged with employees and have no idea what is going on. They are concerned about retaining customers and forgotten about the actual workers who keeps the company going. Yes, the sales can sell the products, but don't forget that without workers you wouldn't go that far.

The HR team is arrogant and don't care about employees who are actually doing real work. They works well with their inner circle of friends and have no hesitation awarding promotions or cooking up questionable positions for certain folks.

Easy to get hired, but then expect to get paid below market rates and doing something completely different than what you were interviewed/hired to do. Oh yes, bonuses and salary increases are very low.

No career progression opportunities. The same folks are promoted from one position to another over a short period of time. It's just comical what certain folks are promoted to do. Rest of the employees have to work their butts off. Good knowledgeable and hard working folks end up just leaving. The HR doesn't seem to be bothered about finding why people are leaving or take any action.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeadership - spend more time with regular worker bees and see what they have to say.

    Horrible place to work

    Confidential (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsBagel Wednesday and free soda. If you like constant employee turn-over and a back-stab culture this is the place for you!

ConsOffshore developers in Nepal who are junior and cannot deliver even basic code. Large portion of the waltham team are on HL 1 Visas, speak limited english and are afraid to loose their job. Have an idea or critical feedback on how to make it better? Forget it, there are a select few who were there "in the good old days" that pine for when the company was nimble and fun/collaborative. For the last several years, the place has been a revolving door of Executives trying to make things better. 4 Presidents in 5 years, 65% employee turn-over in 120 days! This is the poster child of a company that was acquired then sucked dry by a greedy parent company (Verisk Analytics). There is no leadership or direction but they love to blame Product Management for no roadmap or Client Services for messy implementations. The sad truth is that this is a company that really focuses on 5 large clients and most/all development work is directed towards maintenance & support of buggy software for them. The company is one big organizational mess with HR not engaged. This is the worst company I have ever worked at. I will never recommend it to anyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire Jordan (COO) and Nadine (CEO) ASAP then just accept the reality of the situation the company is in. Most employees think they are working on the titanic. Senior Management has more travel miles than they do time in the office to see how things are really going. Most employees worry too much about getting fired or yelled at for something they have little control over (thus, the death spiral has begun). Stop the lip service and provide a plan for getting out of the mess you are in. How many good people need to leave before you get a clue something is very wrong here.

This Company IS ALL About Profits

    Clinical Analyst (Former Employee)

    ProsMy co-workers. They were awesome!

ConsCompany driven by profits, management doesn't plan ahead for new growth. Extensive OT required. No work life balance. Management wants to take credit for all positive ideas. They want to believe that everyone is very satisfied with their work environment and won't acknowledge that even the best work environment can use improvement. If you raise any issues you become a target, the worst work assignment etc. Mid management will give instructions for work flow and if upper management disagrees, mid management denies giving their employees the directions...throwing them under the bus.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees. Put people first and the profits will take care of themselves. Own your mistakes.

    Miserable place to work

    Confidential (Former Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsFree bagels, soda and great coffee.
Has the backing of Verisk Analytics who has deep pocket and can continue to fund one mistake after another (Unified Platform, what a joke)
As other reviewers already mentioned, easy to get hired and keep your job, as long as you have no ambitions whatsoever and you don't mind working with the worst leaders in the industry.

ConsTotal disconnects between the kings/queens and the worker bees. Promotions, bonus and recognitions are based on connections rather than performance. It's all about being part of that inner club at the top. Aging IT infrastructure. Very poor software development practices. No realistic future vision, products roadmap or innovation. Expect to be crushed by the competition within the next 2 to 3 years.
Worst of all is HR. Nice and friendly folks, but lack any kind of experience related to HR. Guys, come to the office more often, listen to your employees, and conduct exit interviews face to face, not online!!

Advice to Senior ManagementSeek professional help from the outside. You can't help it, "you don't know what you don't know".

    Has potential but so disorganized

Worker Bee (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

ProsMainly nice people tho not terribly experienced. Nice bagels on Wednesdays.

ConsThis company's leadership demonstrates little to no accountability. People work in silos and don't want to share information or collaborate across groups. There is no clear direction. Managers come, get discouraged and then go. Too many bottleneck single point of failure people that hold up everyone's progress. Managers talk the happy talk but this place is a mess. Good luck to Nadine.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake a detailed strategy plan and stick to it. Be more transparent about decision making details. Develop a process or two and use them. The word of mouth tribal communication technique within the inner circle alone does not work. Very top heavy management structure. Replace all managers, directors, VPs etc.

A perfect example of a dysfunctional organization

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Waltham, MA

Pros1- Easy to get hired, probably for two reasons, company's reputation is repelling good candidates and, totally incompetent HR leadership who have no idea about attracting and retaining talent.
2- Job security. Due to the high turnaround, the ones who decide to stay can pretty much keep their job indefinitely, whether they perform well or not. You can slack all day and no one would even know or care.

ConsFor a long time, this company really suffered from bad leadership. And just when you think that things can't get any worse, a change in leadership brings even more incompetent "leaders". The real problem is when that leader starts promoting people in their inner circle to critical positions, regardless of their qualifications or experience. All while ignoring the few real talents left in the company. What happens next? Those who are able to get better jobs starts abandoning ship, leaving only the very incompetent employees and the very highly paid VPs and Chiefs sitting in their high towers not having a clue about what is happening in their company.
What's more, everyone knows that everyone is looking for other jobs and/or interviewing. Morale is at its lowest and no one has any motivation to get anything done. The talented ones are already gone and neither leadership or HR showed any interest or put any effort in trying to keep them.

Advice to Senior ManagementI truly wish that I can give you a constructive advice at this point, but I can't. It will take a miracle to restore this company and allow it to compete in a very competitive market.
