    Pros

The company continues to experience strong growth as the solutions provided to our clients are truly game changers in managing the complexities of their print, and fulfillment needs. The company continues to evolve and is bringing in stronger leadership to improve morale and work/life balance.

    Cons

As with any small company that is becoming a bigger company there are growing pains so you may be working through situations that are new and need to be figured out. Being a production facility there is pressure to ensure things are working consistently. Not a lot of room for error or bottlenecks It's fast paced and sometimes high pressure. Not for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to improve communication, reward performance and make it a good long term place for employees.

    Pros

The office is close to the Metra stop.

    Cons

Read the reviews of Consolidated Graphics. This is a CGX company and those reviews are accurate. Communication from senior management does not exist. Escalations to management go nowhere. When the eventual disaster happens the CEO steps in to yell. This is the Veritas leadership. The daily working environment is chaos having no processes for application development , project management, or operations. Nothing is documented. Best practices are never learned - in a short period of time you will see the same mistakes happen over and over. The technology is not impressive and the code is frightening. The benefits are really terrible. The working environment is a cement floor with no windows. Animosity between groups is chronic. There is no employee review process. The exit interview is an opportunity for you manager and CEO to argue, tell you off, and tell you "you can't handle it" not listen any attempt at thoughtful feedback.

    Pros

There was a lot of opportunity to learn new things at Veritas. There was always a shortage of people, and plenty of work to do, so if you wanted to help out with something different, people welcomed you to explore tasks outside of your normal job description.

    Cons

The work/life balance here is not good, most people are given an iPhone on day one and are expected to be on call 24/7 (including vacations). Benefits were absolutely horrible as well, you were nearly better off getting private insurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Begin to change the culture so that you don't see such high turnover. When everyday is a fire drill, people get burnt out quickly.

    Pros

Team members are great but with such a high turn around everyone is pretty much brand new
Flexible hours- you can get in anytime until 9:30 and nobody says anything which is nice.
    Work from home ability
    Close to train station
    Casual work environment

    Cons

No review process- don't expect to get a raise
Terrible senior management who fail to appreciate hard work of everyone here
Very long hours! No work- life balance
Benefits are terrible - your vacation time is accrued so whatever you collect that's what you get. No sick time- when you're sick you're expected to work from home. No personal time off either.
High expectations for little in return

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at your employees as your most valued asset. People will continue to leave as they are now. Lots of GREAT talent is lost and will be lost because you can't see anything past the bottom line and sucking up to the clients.

    Pros

It's a great place to learn and dive into experience. There are benefits, but at a minimum. Maybe it will be different with RR Donnelley. This building is right by the Metra. I think that's a good perk.

    Cons

They work you until you want to stomp your feet, cry, and run out the door. No appreciation/thank you for your hard work. Even if you're putting in 80 hours a week. You're just expected to do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wouldn't you get better results if the turnover rate wasn't this high?

    Pros

The company is growing which provides opportunities to work on a variety of accounts and learn from working with clients in a variety of industries. There are some great people to work with and learn from along with opportunities to take the initiative to improve internal processes.

    Cons

Resources are stretched thin throughout the entire company and people are always asked to take on more and more until work suffers or they burn out and quit. The high and constant turnover reinforces this policy out of necessity. The benefits are awful and the pay isn't high enough to support appropriate hiring or talent retention. A company that is willing to go to such extremes to please its clients seems ambivalent towards creating a strong work culture that can appropriately support its current clients and the potential for further growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to fix the culture and reverse the turnover trend.

    Bad Environment for Software Development

    Pros

The people are very nice, pay is good, work-life balance is okay and you are available to work from home once a week. They also give out iPhones which is a plus...

    Cons

This company suffers from top to bottom. There is no true development methodology or practices, which basically makes for a giant free for all. Deployments are erratic and time consuming, the majority of programmers lack sufficient knowledge to do their jobs nor have any desire to advance, management is always in meetings and provide no direction, there is no consistent company-wide communication software, there is no dedicated QA for IT, the building is poorly set up and the workplace is dark, dingy and uninspiring. If you are planning on advancing your career, this is not the place for you, however, if you just want a job programming then this could be a decent fit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more developers, QA personnel and analysts and go Agile! As for upper management, pay more attention to your employees, they are people not "bodies".

    Pros

After working at VDS for more than 2 years, I can't find one pro - many former employees would agree!

    Cons

    - Long hours (16 hours min.). If you leave at 5PM management looks at you with judgement. The print shop is 24/7. Employees are required to have work phones on at all times and be accessible, even when ill. Basically, if you break out the unpaid overtime you're putting in and calculate it you're making less than min. wage. No work/Life balance - this is discouraged unless your life starts at 9 or 10 PM.

    - Management threatens employees on work performance, hours, and working conditions. Morning and afternoon meetings are known for management to threaten employees that they can be replaced in a second.

    - Company can't say no to customers making it hard for employees to meet expectations.

    - Lack of training.

    - Turnover is very quick. Employees leave within 1-2 years in project management.

    - Owner and upper management have very bad tempers and that's seen in all the departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Show respect to your employees and appreciation to enhance company Morale.
