verizon is the best place to work as an intern.
The things you are thought in class are being practiced at the company, which made me so happy!

    Pros

Great benefits, good management (at least in my case)

    Cons

Verizon is huge so it is up to you if you want to take it as a warm blanket job and be a part of the cubicle or keep trying to see if you get to learn more.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent Health Care and Benefits package. Verizon offers many possibilities being a large multi-national company.

    Cons

Work life balance is lacking. Internal processes hamper project execution and does more to impede timely delivery to customers than provide checks and balances to the corporation. No long term planning or capacity management that comes back to; everything being an emergency on a day to day basis. Mid-executives are not talking to employees and making changes to foster a better work environment. Pay is not competitive, people are leaving in mass numbers and finding better paying jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better planning so everything is not an emergency, Competitive salaries and communicate to the foot soldiers. Listen, listen and then react.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great 401K, great medical, below average dental. The people you work with are amazing and make working there an overall above average experience.

    Cons

It's like working in a glass ant farm, cubes are shorter and smaller than most call center cubes you see on TV customer service commercials. Managers, senior IT consultants, all sit in the same IT factory cubes, the glare from outside light with the over head florescence creates the perfect cocktale for cranium splitting headaches.

Pay is average for IT work, work hours are average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a work environment that's conducive to productivity, what you're doing today isn't it.

    Pros

Good opportunity to work on different aspects of the business. Good work-life balance depending on which part of the business you are in.

    Cons

Too many changes in management. I have had 4 bosses in the last 2 years and probably around 8 in the last 4. They are not sure of many parts of the business other than the core wireless part

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together and build employee confidence with a proper plan and less management changes

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to new and exciting technologies and the opportunity to work with many wonderful and dedicated professionals. Definitely would recommend.

    Cons

Twelve hour shifts with only about four hours of work to be done each day makes for a lot of down time. This time could be better spent training up on new skills but this isn't provided by the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

Former Employee - Manager in Irving, TX

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Full of opportunity to see where high tech meets the road. On the cutting edge of consumer technology. Best wireless network and Fiber distribution infrastructure, bar none. Financially secure. Real opportunity to shake and move for those willing to invest the effort and who are good at what they do.

    Cons

Still a little stodgy with residual from AT&T days. Relentless about outsourcing and taking money out of the machinery. Customer service resides in India. On line help tools need some help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you are the market leader, lead the market. If you don't want to be in the wireline business, spin it all off. The death by a thousand cuts will never deliver the success you're looking for.
