Advice to Senior Management
When you have town hall meetings, listen to suggestions and ideas from employees currently involved in the projects you have .
Pros
great environment, good earning potential
Cons
level of management needs growth
Advice to Senior Management
learn how to deal with people
Pros
Most managers are understanding on flex hours. The company's benefits are above average. The new management is promising and shows accountability.
Cons
Too much favoritism at work and politics. Very hard to do the right thing. Health care benefits have been cut every year. No more pensions. No more educational benefits.
Pros
Enjoyable working environment - talented and smart fellow employees.
I learned a lot of new skills while I was there and company paid for my Masters degree. My raises were always in line with my expectations and felt appreciated by manager and director.
Cons
Bad upper management.
Wireline side of company has been in decline since 1999. Every year has seen at least a 10% reduction in headcount since then. Needless to say, there are few if any opportunities. Benefits have been reduced over this same period as well. The only career path that existed while I was there was through the exit door.
One of the happiest days of my life when I left.
Advice to Senior Management
Try being honest with employees. Don't gloss over earnings reports and say that the company is in great shape because of Wireless without recognizing some of the difficulties that exist for the Wireline side of the business.
Pros
working at Verizon was not as bad. There is lot of growth opportunity.
Cons
too much office politics going on.
Advice to Senior Management
respect young employees.
Pros
- Good pay and compensation package
- Supportive if you would like to take time off when necessary
- Fairly supportive environment (depending on group you work in)
Cons
- Future doesn't seem too bright
- Long hours of work expected
- Quantity of work is more important than quality of work
Pros
Union company that has great pay and benefits. The union is fairly strong and keeps pay highand benefits where they should be. The labor required by the job is average or less than that of other comparible companies. Most of the cabel is burried and there is very little ladder climbing.
Cons
There are jobs that are not specified to a certain department and it is difficult to find someone that will go out and do the job without credit. Your productivity is ranked on the amout of jobs you complete in a day and management and the dispatch department are resistant to create a job for something that might be completed quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
For the most part management tries to do what is right. Don't let union employees run over you but work with them when they need or want something. A successful company revolves around working with your employees and doing whats right, or has the most amout of good for everyone.
Pros
Verizon at the moment compensates very well. The pay is good, and the employees have received bonuses every year so far. Verizon is one of the few companies that allows telecommuters.
Cons
Senior management treats the employees as less than human. There was a reorganization within Verizon business. They made everyone reinterview for their jobs. No communication for months from management about what was going on. Morale is very low.
Pros
The company for the most part was very good, with excellent benefits. The pension was discontinued as is the case with most companies. There was no sick day policy but it was expected that people be responsible in their use of time off due to family or personal illness.
Cons
The IT data services org was very oppressive and operated through threats and intimidation. It was also very cliquish with most personnel located in Tampa and very little interaction with Irving. Management changes were frequent below the SVP level.
Employee surveys were interesting in that the satisfaction level was often in the 50% range but rather than address it the per cent change was spotlighted, if in the positive direction.
Verizon is committed to sending application development offshore and is understood when an examination of senior management surnames is listed. However, much of the development work from offshore was sub-par, causing numerous issues in performance and morale.
Pros
fortune 500 company
balance between work and home
good for working parents
Cons
promotions are not based on qualifications but relations
