    wireline is dead

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

Prosbenefits are great but they will always hold your job over your head unless you are in the union.

Consworrying constantly about losing your job, clueless upper management, constant changing priorities with the customer coming last

Advice to Senior Managementsell wireline and just do retail wireless already!!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Why Everybody Hates Verizon

    Director (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsCompensation package is good once you get to the Director level.

ConsVirtually no hope of upward movement. Individuals can't become managers, managers are not being promoted to directors. The morale is terrible -- layoff after layoff after layoff. It is a completely top-down culture with no regard for the worker bees. Very conservative, risk-adverse culture that values titles more than experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen more and promote a better work-life balance.

    Mostly enjoyable and rewarding

    Manager (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe people who work here are excellent. Verizon people know how to come together to fix a problem or tackle a disaster like no other company. Pension, benefits and pay were excellent.

ConsNew management from the wireless side who recently took over the highest positions in the business have no use for the landline operations portion of the business. Their direction is no direction. Their speak was double speak, they said one thing and did another. This caused significant friction between upper and mid level management and tension amongst the rank and file.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the copper side of the house and stop the games.

    As an empolyer

    Technician (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsDecent salary and benefits. The work-life balance is pretty good as the company has grown. There is a lot of opportunity to grow through company paid education

ConsCompany has changed from customer centric to share price centric with less emphasis on the loyal employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe lower management would perform much better without the threat of RIF's. Concentrate on the employees needs on the job with some seriousness and be more forthcoming with all the employees with the direction of the company and how it will effect all the employees

Good Company, pay and benefits - limited upward mobility

    Group Manager (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsVerizon is an exciting company to work in. They offer excellent products and services and have a commitment to excellent customer service. They provide good salaries and a strong benefits package. Great company to gain experience in and then move to other companies.

ConsLittle opportunity for promotion to higher management. Career opportunities are primarily focused on lateral experience. Long hours and weekends. Crisis management is the bau environment and part of the culture.

Great pay, good company, mediocre managers

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsExcellent hourly pay, union, medical benefits, fmla rights, maternity/paternity leave with gradual return, sales incentive program, overtime, 401k, employee discounts on fios and wireless, paid vacation days.

ConsForced overtime, long business hours, open on the weekend, management is very demanding on customer service reps to meet their monthly sales objective (since managers are salary paid at a 70/30 rate and to get that 30% of their pay, all the representatives on the team must meet 100% of sales objective), sales objective is extremely high, customers can be very stressful, very busy call environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementRepresentatives do not feel appreciated by management

Ever changing "plan" on the Enterprise side

    Senior Staff Consultant (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsStrong wireless business, great value for shareholders. Looks good on a resume for those who value old school telco background. Apple self paced training opportunity.

ConsSame unproductive leaders get shuffled every 9 months under the guise of a re-org...why not bring in a proven sales leader to turn the business around?

Advice to Senior ManagementOutside hires with proven track records of success for leadership positions in Enterprise.
