Pros
- huge company with plenty of room for lateral moves
- very interesting areas of operation
- learn something new everyday
- Verizon does business all over the world and if you are lucky enough to be in the right place you will meet great people and travel all over
Cons
- lower managment is many times useless
- a lot of red tape due to the size
- no real room for promotions and growth
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of dead lower managment weight
Pros
A job, in a bad job industry
Cons
overworked without enough training and under paided
Advice to Senior Management
Place more sock in employees
Pros
Good benefits. Work From Home allowed. Understanding about work/life balance and issues. Lots of different projects and challenging work. Fast-paced.
Cons
Little room for internal advancement. Cheap (they stopped buying all office supplies except copier paper - you had to buy your own pens/paper/etc).
Advice to Senior Management
Stop treating employees as a disposable asset. Verizon makes money - it almost always has - but doesn't seem to make enough money. That's why there are constant layoffs, no office supplies and reduced lighting in the offices and parking garages.
Pros
Verizon is a well known brand
Pay is good
There are jobs in every state and many countries
Cons
Beauracracy can be stifling
Career development is hit or miss
Too much cost control focus
Advice to Senior Management
Management does a good job considering; but the message is "We've got a great strategy; YOU need to execute."
Pros
Good Team Environment with competent technical staff.
Cons
Sudden Changes as of late.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate more.
Pros
It was a great place to work as the people were intelligent, fun, and had a great work ethic.
Cons
Too many re-orgs and lay-offs and everyone is stressed out as they are either overworked or looking over their shoulders that they will be next on the chopping block.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit sending jobs overseas and hiring contractors. Quit laying off employees that have worked long and hard to make this a good company.
Pros
The money was OK, I suppose.
Cons
Always layoffs at the end of every quarter.. Do less with more. Train your replacement and we won't be needing you anymore!
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your jobs here in the USA! Customers do not appreciate being handed off from an American engineer to someone who barely can comprehend the English language.
Pros
Great benefits and salary, if you don't desire promotions.
Cons
Demanding management and no promotions. Poor morale.
Pros
There is a lot of new technology at Verizon and lot depends on where you work and who you work for. The benefits are good and the pay is good.
Cons
Management has not explained that changes that are going on within the company in a decent manor. A large portion of the workers were moved from salary to hourly and any questions were met with incomplete response or that they need to check on it. We get told things by managers that never are written down or become policy.
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to and with the workers. Provide information on what is happening in the future as far as contacts, work load, movements with in departments etc. We receive information from the corporate level but very little in the department or group levels.
Pros
Ability to learn a great deal if your a self starter...ability to move around to many positions
Cons
terrible upper management, infighting, politics....some employees were hired that were highly unqualified
Advice to Senior Management
Quit fighting and competing with each other and focus on making the company a success.
