Pros
A leader in the industry for multiple categories. Their training program consistently ranks as one of the best and most comprehensive. Leading in salary and compensation for similar job positions in other companies. Amazing benefits, retirement plan, and paid vacation time. Potential to earn upwards to 65k in your first year.
Cons
Definitely can be hard to meet the numerous monthly quotas. There is strict corrective action for any quotas that are missed.
Advice to Senior Management
The company literally invests thousands of dollars for each new hire to go through new-hire training. Dont be so fast to get rid of them for a bad month or two of sales.
Pros
employer provides lots of opportunity for job changes or promotions
Cons
not always working under competent leadership and the culture of the company could be better.
Advice to Senior Management
at every level of leadership, leaders should be forced to take 360 degree reviews and skip level reviews
Pros
Comprehensive Benefits Package, 401K Match, Great Employees, Tuition Assistance, Employee Discounts, Opportunity to Advance, Work for an Industry Leader, exciting technology.
Cons
Leadership out of touch with front line employees, frequent changes in leadership. Leadership position does not look appealing; thus, can be seen as a detractor for career growth. No schedule flexibility- alternative schedule options (4 10's, 9:80 work week), work remotely, job sharing, part time option, etc... ,
High performance demands/expectations result in decreased work life balance.
We don't celebrate the wins enough and tend to focus on the loss or "opportunity".
Doesn't always feel like you are working as a team- can be a very "us" vs. "them" mentality, can be viewed as favoritism.
We don't always utilize the technology that we promote.
Over communicate- lots of calls and meetings, not enough execution.
Advice to Senior Management
Leaders,
Spend face time with employees (don't just send out an electronic survey, or email). We often have great ideas and suggestions on how to improve the business or processes, and also need your leadership to ensure that we are on track to meet goals. Recognize great work *consistently*. We have some really great team members that we'd like to keep and not lose their talents to the competition.
Enhance our talents with relevant training on the latest tools and technology to perform our jobs. There are a lot of great tools out there, but we don't have a formalized training program within our department. Most of that is for the sales and customer service folks.
Okay, here's the big one... We can't just preach work, life balance but need to be more effective in utilizing this concept. Happy employees are productive employees. Recognize them and they will continue to work hard for you.
Pros
Pay is good. Hours are retail hours so sometimes a little long on the hours. Management is very cool and professional.
Cons
As I said, the retail nature of the business means a lot of weekends and holidays so just be prepared for working those hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Please continue with what you are doing to keep communication open and to keep your status as the Premier Verizon Agent in southern California.
Pros
Good pay and growth opportunities, Still hiring and making profits in this economy. Yrly Bonus
Cons
Work/Life time off management.
Few positions with opportunities to work from home.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management has an opportunity to get more feedback from employees before making policy/ process improvement changes that may negatively impact the customers or job performance.
Pros
Benefits and discount are the plus
Cons
Company is training customers to go online instead of instore
Advice to Senior Management
Employees know more than you
Pros
Benefits ever changing fun environment interesting rewarding
Cons
Surveys are not fair to rep
Pros
Good money if you know how to sell
Cons
Terrible work/life balance, very difficult to get time off. Retail hours, very high almost unattainable sales quotas.
Advice to Senior Management
Get enough employees to only work 40 hours, not schedule employees for overtime. Understand that people have lives outside of the company as well.
Pros
Benefits are some of the best available! While I was there, I made fairly good money plus employee incentive bonuses. Vacation accrual was also very good.
Cons
They treat their employees like children. Require a college degree, but they don't respect intelligent employee feedback. They are so focused on management-by-spreadsheet, they lose sight of qualitative concerns. Also, I lost so much vacation because it was frowned upon to take it. I once was in a meeting with an AD of HR who indicated to a group of us that taking a two week vacation wasn't acceptable unless you were going on your honeymoon. Fianlly, never go to HR to make a complaint...this is a career ending move!
Advice to Senior Management
There is no advise to be made since VZW management is basically a bunch of place holders. That is, their goal is to build their resumes and move on to the next position. My only hope is that either the IBEW or CWA unions will figure out how to unionize VZW. As one who never favored unionization in the past, after over ten years at VZW, I say go for it!
Pros
Excellent pay when compared to the level of education required for positions. Yearly bonuses were nice. Medical benefits starting on day one was also nice.
Cons
Annual raises often do not keep up with inflation. Promotion preference is given to people that are friends of higher-ups and stated time-in-title requirements are waived for them as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Executive leadership should not be making over 300 times more than an employee that has worked at the company for over 5 years.
