    Overall Great Company

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The call center environment is friendly and fun. The company strongly encourages career progression and continued education. If you stand out from the crowd, you will move up. Benefits are fantastic!

    Cons

Company goals and employee evaluations are changed pretty frequently. Teams are changed bi-annually (this can either be a pro or a con depending on how much you like your current team).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take what has worked successfully from other call centers and use it locally rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. Encourage supervisors by providing more incentives. Praise for accomplishing a long-worked goal is short lived and most discussions revolve around setting even higher expectations or reminding of areas of low performance. This should be adjusted to improve morale.

    Not for all...

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are great, management tries to keep morale up, and you will get to bond with your co-workers like nowhere else.

    Cons

The nature of the work itself: it is emotionally, mentally, and psychologically exhausting. Going to the bathroom takes away from your adherence and can potentially get you dinged by your supervisor. You are told to do something, but then management is always making exceptions which makes it hard to really understand what you're supposed to do. This job is simply not for everyone, especially if you have higher goals and self-esteem/respect for yourself.

    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

Benefits and pay time off opts are good. Basically all I can think of. When you are seniored good schedule.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals to meet, can be more customer focused, stressful(not mainly because of customers but the company's unrealistic views, goals from the "powers that be".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so far removed that it's not remembered when you were on the phones. Realize that it is different some things just don't work. Basically listen more to reps and front line management.

    Great benefits, harsh management style

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pros: great benefits, decent pay, comfortable work environment, many shifts to choose from on the shift bid, plenty of time management options

    Cons

The cons: I loved the job I hired into, I was so stressed and hated the job I left. While all the pros sound outstanding, along with that comes the stress from the customers combined with the ever changing expectations and metrics from upper management and the constant scrutiny of middle management. Though you're told it isn't scripted, by the time you get through your first dial-in coachings, associate director coachings, weekly coachings, the material you post at your desk to remember to hit all the points in a call plus the sales metrics and survey metrics, it is pretty much scripted for you. When you need a supervisor, you can't find one because they are always in meetings or picking up slack for other missing sups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be 1) go back to the previous management style that was more customer and employee focused. Happy employees make for more and better performance and happier, more satisfied customers. Make supervisors more accessible when needed. Give more floor support from senior representatives. 2) Change doesn't energize, it exasperates and stresses the employees. 3) Senior employees do deserve first choice in shift bids, they have been there longer, have more experience, and have a lot more stress. 4) Make it fair, across the board. Some reps are allowed to skip over all the rules while others are picked apart for the same things. It shouldn't matter who is your buddy in the upper management, if you apply the rule to one, it should apply to all. 5) All of the changes upper management says should "energize", don't. Reps on the phones have stress and heat coming from every side. They have to convey the bad news to customers, the change to customers, explain why to customers, then get the fallout from customers and supervisors/ADs/On up. 6) Get away from MetLife for short-term and long-term. They are horrible to deal with. Take a survey of your employees, you will see how bad it is. The worst experience of my life.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The day one benefits are great and so is the tuition assistance. Leadership is great if you get a supervisor willing to go to bat for you.

    Cons

The opportunity to move up is very slim. If you don't want to be a supervisor you will not have a great chance to move up in the company.

I worked at Verizon Wireless as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Working for Verizon has taught me a lot. The people there were very friendly and everyone is more than happy to help you learn the aspects of the company. I've learned through my marketing position, how Verizon is a company that can help you branch out to many different employers in case your networking skills are getting a little rusty. Also, Verizon's management are very nice and helpful, they will hold your hand until you can walk and flourish within the company.

    Cons

The pay can sometimes not be the best, but overall there are not many cons.

    Pros

Great benefits. Great atmosphere. Excellent pay. The supervisors were all very friendly and helpful. They give great advice on moving up in the company. Lots of training.

    Cons

Hard to move up the ladder. If you want to advance to the next level, you have to be willing to move to different states. Sometimes that may mean a lateral move (position and pay). Also the hours were not very desirable.
