I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There are alot of great employee benefits. Annual bonus, $8000 in tuition assistance per year (the tuiton assistance can be prepaid instead of reimbursed which is awesome in my opinion), affordabale insuance, discount on wireless service, on-site gym, etc.

    Cons

There is alot of infomation to try to remember. Customers are unsatisfied alot of the time which gives bad survey results. Very unorganized, things are constantly changing.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work with great people, day 1 benefits, great advancement from care to tech, excellent new hire training, fun offline events 1-2 times a year.

    Cons

Unrealistic Stat requirements, requires antidepressants to not commit suicide. You leave coachings feeling defeated because theirs always something you could have done better. If your taking more than enough calls then you must not be building meaningful relations with customers, but if you let them get carried away about their wedding plans then your wasting company time and need to get back to business. Every thing from restroom breaks to why are you not taking breaks at designated times, when your boss is 15 mins late and takes 5 breaks every day.. one minute they want to change tech support from cost center 23 calls a day to profit center and take 27 calls a day and sell them accessories while still fixing issues, to we lost jd powers customer service reward so now get to know them and take 22 calls. Don't give credits and keep occ's below a dollar but when you fail a survey and they listen to the call they say you could have offered them credits to show loyalty.

The worst is vendors used to take no more than 20% calls. Now they closed 3 centers last year and partnered with more vendors who take 50+% of calls. They get 2 weeks training where internals get 4 months training and practice. Make half what internals make with no support and are advised to transfer anything unknown to tech support. Which causes stress and low morale when the entire department tells uppermanagement in round tables how much vendors why tech had100 people quit including 3 supervisors last year and why it looks depressing in tech support. But don't worry they made a new procedure for supervisors to immediately stop anyone on the floor talking negatively and have a private discussion about how negative morale conversations on the floor are not allowed and should be kept for after hours when not at work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sweeping the big problems under the rug and falling for magic beans from software salesmen selling you credit decision engines that are broken and take human discretion out, and other systems that fail and cause work times to be much longer due to latency and system crashes. Even though these cheap labor vendors and fancy decision engine programs look good on paper to show stock holders they don't actually return on investment and cause your internal reps who actually are trained and capable of fixing the issues extra workload from calls being dumped or transfered because their boss didnt know how to answer their reps question, stress and medical costs for anti-depressants, internal bleeding, anxiety, drinking and eating disorders.

You won JD Powers for best network again, but lost customer satisfaction. They said repeat calls and transfered numerous times was big reasons people gave bad remarks. Vendors give false info or transfer blindly all day. I have many examples of vendors transferring calls after 30 seconds of call popping. Please do some homework and fix this before best network isn't enough.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits and great coworkers

    Cons

The advancement opportunities only come around once every few years so you are stuck on the phones, which is highly stressful bc your statistics are based on customer surveys. So if a customer is mad at the company and not you...they fail the survey which fails you. There is no exception to these. Most people who work there have degrees and are not compensated for their education. Everyone starts the same base pay regardless if educated or HS diploma.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay based on experience and education. Re evaluate your metrics by which you grade employees bc you are losing hard working, dedicated employees, who would other wise make this a career. You are also making a name for yourself in local communities as being a terrible place to work. It's not good for your business. Provide time daily for employees to de-stress, as this field is known for it's stress. This will help your employee retention and lower your training expenses.

    Pros

Benefits were very good, salary was average for the industry.

    Cons

If you are not a person that embraces fast-paced work environment, this is not the job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to ask employees what past work experience to get the best talent in the best departments in the company. Ask employees to take ongoing training in different departments to move up in the company

    Pros

Good benefits and people you work with. Tuition assistance is a plus. Bonus every year is a good perk as well.

    Cons

High stress, very aggressive numbers to achieve, sales goals in tech support with no commission. Hours can be hard to adjust to. No freedom no work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure there is supervisor support more often weekends are bare bone staff with no support.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very good pay & benefits start day one

    Cons

I've seen so many people carried out of the call center on gurneys. I estimate that the majority are on antidepressants, blood pressure meds, heartburn meds. Cholesterol meds. You will eat SO many feelings attempting to deal with the stress of this job. Management will tell you the attrition rate is 2%, and you will honestly try very hard not to laugh in their face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in the damn trenches and take some calls, then you won't be so damn cheerful & smiley all the time.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good starting pay. Easy to move up the first few ladder rungs (I.e. Rep to senior rep, tech support to tech 2). Health benefits start on day one. Extensive training (you will need every second of it). Hiring in a flabby job market/economy.

    Cons

Being on the phones for VZW is a highly stressful job. I've worked in the call center industry for fifteen years and have never felt pressure like this. Everything but your heart rate & pulse ox is monitored & judged. Company expectations extremely high. Resources are difficult to use & understand. You will be on antidepressants & blood pressure meds within 2 years of taking the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For God's sake raise the service levels. If we had a chance to breathe between calls, morale in the call center would soar & employees would have a better chance of forming friendships & a feeling of community. Look around. People don't smile at each other, don't even notice you walking by. Fix the frickin' heating & air system, if every employee is wrapped in a blanket & people are actually wearing fingerless gloves, IT MIGHT BE TOO CHILLY.
