    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

Great employer to work for when starting out, great training and work environment. I thought the initial compensation package fits someone who is starting out.

    Cons

The hours need to be a little flexible IMO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When hiring someone with a degree or higher, please consider paying them to compensate for the education they have, not experience only. Look at both please.

Consistent lower pay with added pressure to perform (sales).

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work around the neatest, newest cellular technology. Good 401k benefits, health and education benefits. At least some consistent pay (because it's a huge corporation – you don't have to worry about bounced checks).

    Cons

It used to be a truly great place to work at. Over the years they made it harder for sales reps to make commission. They foster an unhealthy, competitive environment between co-workers. Employees are rewarded for acting unethical if it's done in a way that can look unintentional (oops, did I add VZ Navigator to that customer's account without explaining anything to them?!).
Their sales focus is constantly changing – some months they want you to focus on adding new lines, others selling accessories. The problem isn't the changing focus, but the way they make employees go about it. The "train" us to listen to the customer and sell them what they need (so on the FACE it seems legit), but they reprimand the employees for not hitting certain metrics, thus the EFFECT is that Verizon forces its sales reps to force products onto customers that they don't need or want and often end up returning. This is a constant battle that is never resolved and always taking place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To "upper management." You guys need to work in the store – not visit, critique, or make calls to – but you need to actually SHOW us with your own monthly numbers that you are able to sell the way you try to make sales reps sell and do it consistently and ethically. I dare say - it will never happen. I'm referring to district managers and regional directors. The cannot put their money where their mouth is. It's actually kind of humorous how clueless they are.

    Pros

Verizon offers day one healthcare and paid time off benefits. The are very organized and committed to the success of the people they hire.

    Cons

Customer service is kind of a grueling job. They expect you to be able to handle pretty much anything the customer needs, such as billing, device problems etc.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I work 40 hours/week + overtime pay, but usually don't have to work overtime. Education, Verizon benefits and tuition help. Training courses and classes paid for (as well as travel expenses).

    Cons

Can require a lot of time depending on the project and expectations, but this is not very often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up, your employees are happy, I am anyways.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Prepaid tuition, or Tuition Reimbursement, up to 6% matching on 401k, 50% monthly discount on service plans, great benefits, most are 90% covered or more. Very focused on growing diversity in product offerings, which helps with Job security.

    Cons

Retail Hours are difficult and can burn you out quickly. There seems to be a lot of politics in moving up rather than what actual experience a person has. This seems to be getting worse over the years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Large disconnect between company initiatives and training and what is actual reality. many times initiatives and targets seem to be unrealistic and when the front line talks about opportunity for change, it is usually shot down before it gets a chance to be proven. More concerned with producing numbers than the development of a team environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
