I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were the best I have ever seen and the pay was good. It is a stable company and a leader in the wireless industry.

    Cons

The Bureaucracy was terrible and it was difficult to get anything done. The culture there was one of constant employee complaints who hated their jobs and I was tired of begging employees to come to work. We were constantly short handed and I was expected to do the job of 2 people. I worked long hours and after 4 years I decided to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The employee surveys from customers are difficult to get a promoter score. Lower the scale back down to 8 and above for a promoter score. This is a big source of dissatisfaction for employees.

    Pros

Friendly environment. Training is thorough and extensive to make sure you know the systems and product before you talk to the customer.

    Cons

Strict weekly evaluations with little room for error from day one on the phones. Very stressful job and frequently yelled at by customer.

    Pros

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good culture
    good on site training
good benefits (insurance, tuition reimbursment, etc.)

    Cons

The require "time-in-title" when you accept a new position. This means that once you accept a position then you are required to be there for a specified amount of time before you can be considered for another position. This would not be so bad, but they require you to follow a specific set of job roles until you can get into area roles. This means that even if you have the ability, you are limited to how quickly you can progress in the company.

Pay is also largely based off of tenure, not performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your high performers. Stifling their progression and giving them lower pay than your low performers because of tenure causes you to lose good people.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, good training.

    Cons

No work/life balance. Stress between customers, staff, metrics, employees strictly a number, seniority means nothing, they tell you daily how they can replace you easily, upper management is clickish, quite a few are either quitting or stepping down. PAs change daily. They set you up to fail. The list goes on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your tech reps! We are the cream of the crop, not the clean up crew.

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Professional environment
    Great Benefits
    Good leadership
    Yearly bonuses and raises
    Career advancement
    Awesome Pay

    Cons

some of the things management expects of employees is ridiculous
they want you to say more and more to the customers but take more calls have lower stats they want perfection

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should put themselves on the phones for a bit. Maybe then they can set some more realistic goals for metrics. Sometimes you cannot keep customers on the phone and fix their problem. I don't know how many times I would have the help the customer but they had to go. Their bill was a mess or something and I would have to ruin my stats and get into trouble all just because I was going above and beyond for a customer. Decide one or the other you either want to provide great customer service or you want to take calls and fast as possible. Also quite coming up with more and more fees to charge customers it just makes them unhappy to say the least.

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay is competitive for the area
    Good health and dental insurance
    401k
    50% off of Verizon bill

    Cons

Only cares about the numbers and policy
Does not care about customers or employees
Management will make your life as stressful as they can in order to improve their stats
The majority of supervisors try to make you stick it to the customer in order to improve stats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward employees for good genuinely caring about the customers and trying to do what is best for the company, not just for making sales and avoiding credits and disconnects. The first year I worked for Verizon I loved it and maintained an overall leading PA. Then Verizon as a company started to continuously chang the corporate policy in favor of the company and consistently made it harder and harder for both employees and customers. It got to the point where I felt like I could no longer be an advocate for the customer and there were very few advancement opportunities available.
