I have been working at Vero Insurance New Zealand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent culture. Unlike any corporate you've probably worked for. Insurance with attitude!

    Cons

It's still insurance. It still has a board of directors. And the HR team is ridiculous in size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be more customer focused!

Woeful Management - Stressful, Paranoid Atmosphere (IT Department)

I have been working at Vero Insurance New Zealand

    Pros

    Some projects are very interesting
    Nice office building
    Free biscuits and fruit
They are pretty good at using an agile methodology compared to a lot of other companies
The company itself has good values - and their reputation as a good insurance provider is deserved

    Cons

Overall Summary - Some departments are better than others I believe. There are good people working there, but there is a pattern of management who stifle talent rather than inspire it.

Management are unavailable and disinterested in staff problems. They do not invest in team members, improve morale and praise/ commend good achievements except for those staff members that ingratiate themselves with management. Even those when they eventually and inevitably put a foot wrong are stung, with no regard for their loyalty.

Blaming for problems is rife, management don’t look at the cause of the issue or even the person who actually made the mistake – someone just gets the blame and a tattered reputation. Often a favoured team member’s side will be heard and a decision is made from that.

One of the company’s core values is Integrity and that is a great irony indeed

They give poor rates of pay for the staff that they manage to employ. A previously good reputation attracts the staff in the first place, but you soon find out it is no longer worthy of this name.

The turnover rate in this department is astoundingly high. They have lost some incredibly talented staff over the past few years.

In terms of what could be done to improve things - there needs to be a management shake-up as they are costing the company a lot of money and talent.

I have been working at Vero Insurance New Zealand

    Pros

    Free biscuits/fruits
    Friendly workmates (not managers)
    Interesting projects

    Cons

Management horror and very inflexible. Don't even think about taking leave in advance (unless you are on your boss's favourite list)
Expected to work long hours and not even a word of thanks from boss.
Staff treatment is based on your personal relationship to boss. Staff treatment varies greatly.
Managers magnify your little trivial mistakes and doesn't see other good work done.
Managers are not accessible. 80% of the time are busy and doesn't provide feedback enough.
Processes are undocumented and even managers don't know 100% about it. However, if you unknowingly break some rules,be prepared to get on blacklist/blamed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to care for your staff more and actually do what you promise.
