I worked at Vertis Communications full-time

    Pros

There was an excellent group of professionals in the Atlanta Logistics group. Dave's group provided excellent insight and knowledge to an otherwise struggling company.

    Cons

Several bankruptcies, renaming of the company, lack of job security.

    Advice to Management

Good job selling this company to Quad - should have sold sooner.

I worked at Vertis Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who worked for Vertis > the people who ran Vertis. Enjoyed the people I worked with. The benefits weren't so bad.

    Cons

Zero growth opportunity. The company was going nowhere quickly. Pay was terrible and management had zero control. It was a company ran from an office in a different state and they were delusional to think the employees were happy.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on safety and employee moral. Employees were the core of the business. They were never happy. Always expecting the worst. Fair compensation and increased benefits would have increased moral.

  3. Media Buyer

job description did not match actual position

    Advice to Management

Deadline driven. Demanding. Long Hours. Most of the work comes in at the end of the day.

    Pros

I worked at the home office and the people were a great group of people. Office location in downtown Baltimore was great location.

    Cons

Company had numerous bankruptcies with the first starting in 2008 then 2010 and finally 2013. The constant losses meant that there was no money for salary increases and overall expenditures were tight.

I worked at Vertis Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really liked the people I worked with. I learned a lot about the pre-press industry and agency advertising. The experiences I got a Vertis out weighed the headaches.

    Cons

Upper management didn't really care about their employees. They want to pay them the bare minimum and didn't always keep their promises. There was zero work-home life balance. That company killed the marriages of more people than I want to count. Luckily, my account closed before my marriage was placed on the sacrificial altar.

    Advice to Management

I made some lifetime friends during my time at Vertis and learned a lot. I was underpaid and undervalued however. Look at your human assetts before they all leave.

    Pros

Easy job, just too much detail. The benefits are what kept me there so long.

    Cons

Way too much team work and micro management. Loads of meetings. The company started to fail and installed a software system in place to count the amount of time it took to do this job and that job and it was a job within a job. No one did it accurately, sad to say. We were forced to do it even though it was not part of the job description.

    Advice to Management

Let the employees do their work and try not to hover too much.

  11. Good company, but…

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

Benefits and opportunity for advancement above average

    Cons

Declining industry. Leadership solely interested in selling so owners can cash out.
