I have been working at Viacom full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, content and diversity of the role is excellent.
work life balance is on par
great internal resources and benefits for employees and thier families
the culture is informal, diverse, yet fast paced and challenging.

    Cons

Pay is not a competitive as other industries; however for the work life balance and the environment - it is payment enough.
Hard to move up the ladder..it takes a lot of years to get recognized for promotions based on budgeting restraints?
Could be a little more strategic- but again this is a creative Media company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more opportunities internally for EE's to move up the ladder.
Don't settle for C/Satisfactory employees. You have a lot of veterans here that are not pulling thier weight and they keep them without regard to thier productivity and worth. Not all but there are still a lot of those stragglers

I worked at Viacom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great perks, smart, committed team of people. Lots of opportunity for growth and creativity. The compensation tends to be very competitive. Generous benefits as well. Many people start careers there, leave and come back better than ever and ready to give it their all. The company welcomes that.

    Cons

Sometimes not clear how promotions or reorgs work. Reviews are not consistent across department so can feel like being graded on a curve.

I worked at Viacom as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Viacom has a robust internship program. The HR department really cared about the interns, and made sure they were always available to answer questions, and help as much as possible during the application process as well as after you begin working.

Viacom has a great culture within the company as well, and I was always getting emails about special events and perks & discounts given to employees which were great.

While I was there, interns also were given the opportunity to interview anyone in the company; literally anyone. So if you're interested in talking with someone from any of Viacom's brands (MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, etc.) your supervisor will set you up with the proper connections. This is invaluable for networking and strengthening your career.

    Cons

Very past-paced environment, which I loved, but may be something to bare in mind when applying. The project I was on involved coordinating with Viacom branches across the world, and though the end product was rewarding, getting there involved a lot of hard work and coordinating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope the company continues its wonderful internship program, and strengthens it in the future. It's a great opportunity for college students, and recent grads, for getting their foot in the door into television.

Viacom is an amazing company. It's a fun, relaxed environment but everyone is super passionate about what they're doing. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and they give you real tasks that make you feel a part of the team. It was the best internship I had!

I have been working at Viacom as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I've been interning at Viacom for almost a year. I've been interning at the Domestic Tax Compliance Department. I love the environment here. Everyone is very nice and everyone is always willing to answer any questions you might have. I've learned a lot here with the help of all the managers and co-workers.

    Cons

Training was a problem because I did not exactly get a full-on training experience. Most of the time I had to self learn through my mistakes. I mean, the managers will teach you how to work on certain projects, but most of the time its really brief. Also, the pay of an intern is very low but I mean, previously, you'd intern here unpaid with credit.
