I have been working at Victor O Schinnerer Company full-time for more than 10 years

Pros – People are outstanding, you have to work hard, and be patient, but it is worth it; good benefits, plesant work environment, new changes are in store, managers and executives that always have an open door. You will do well if you have good people skills and do more than just underwrite - you have to sell! Insurance is a tough enviroment and Schinnerer does more than most to make it challenging and interesting.

Cons – Trying to demand the balance between Marsh and our carriers; offering competitive salaries and a competitive product against direct writers

Advice to Senior Management – Be as direct as you can, tell what you know, and don't be afraid to admit when things are going off course. We have been through a rough couple of years, but positive energy does a world of good for the employees.

Pros – Great staff and management (on the Construction Industry Group side)
Mid-size company (200+ employees), so its small enough to know the company President and speak freely with her about company issues, but big enough to have good benefits.
Nice work environment
Not a stressful job. You may get behind or overwhelmed ocassionally but for the most part it is not overwhelming at all.

Cons – Pay not good considering cost of living.
Unfair promoting practices
About 30%+ of the job is being a 'salesman' to brokers. If you like sales then this may be a pro for you.

Advice to Senior Management – Higher pay improves retention
Career tracks need to be more clearly defined
Overall great job!

Pros – The staff are great despite all the obstacles incompetent management place in the way of effectively and efficiently achieving results.

Cons – Unbelievably toxic environment. Continuing ed opportunities are based on where in the company you work. Management shows a consistent lack of respect to employees.

Advice to Senior Management – Weed out incopetent and unethical managers. Live your mission statement and the values enshrined there. Walk the walk, don't just talk the talk. Treat employees with respect.
