I worked at Victoria's Secret Stores

    Pros

The only pros that I can think of for this company is that they are a good brand, the discounts are great (plus free items), and you are the first to see the merchandise.

    Cons

The cons to this position is that they work long hours, inventory is very very very strenuous, and the managers don't care about the associates. It seems like everybody messes up the panty bar and it takes hours to get the whole thing back right for the next day (even if it's time to get off). Also, associates have to meet sales goals but there is no commission. It's stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care about the employees time

    Pros

You really get a wonderful hands on selling experience, you get to talk to customers and really help her find her perfect wardrobe. In addition, the new incentives program really inspires you to go the extra mile.

    Cons

Management can sometimes be all over the place; however, this might depend on the specific store you work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone needs to consistently be on the same page, it's nerve wrecking when you're trying to do your job the best you can; however, your getting different instructions from different people on the same subject.

I worked at Victoria's Secret Stores part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

My fellow employees were all very friendly and easy to get along with. It was a lot of fun and the discounts were great! I learned a lot, like how to measure for sizes and the different types of bras and panties, and it was a great retail expereince!

    Cons

If you don't keep up with company selling standards, you are terminated. There is a lot of pressure to sell, almost to the point of annoying customers. My general manager was a bit of a bully, and berated those of us who could not sell as well as others. They were very strict with rules, and did not allow for much flexibility in the schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not bully your employees. Give constructive criticism rather than punishment for not doing things.

    Pros

Sample sales, some cool people, lots of cookies?! Oh and models while you eat your cookies.

    Cons

No growth unless you display bad behavior or are a complete whipping boy. Poor work life balance. So much wasted on frills and not any head count or decent increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your associates, stop micro managing and believe they are adults who are capable of doing their jobs. Treat assistants like more than dispensable pawns that have no real value.

    Cons

    Hours, Employee turnover, Upper Management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Place more emphasis at the retail level to maintain the spirit of the company. Invest time to make sure that your employees are enjoying working with your company, as much as they love shopping with your company.
