Bug The company is pushing for quality you cannot deliver with the tools available

Customer Service Agent (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at Videotron ltee full-time for less than a year

ProsBenefits are ok for unionized jobs (medical, discounts)
Most of the staff is nice to one another

Cons30 years old information systems still in use, Internet Explorer 8 is still in use

The information systems are so inefficient and poorly designed that you spend half of your time dealing with their short comings instead of actually working. There are no plans to fix them because the company spent so much money on a new CRM that is just as bad as the older system. Yet the plan is to phase out the older system for the newer one so no money to be spent on the older system. But the newer system is just a front-end for the older one... It's kind of a catch 22.

The company puts a lot of pressure on employees to perform, be quality oriented and flexible when the company itself is run using exactly the opposite principles

Any suggestion or feedback on procedures is encouraged and promptly discarded

A lot of the work is tedious legwork done using huge Excel spreadsheets, inadequate Lotus databases and a whole ecosystem of botched apps glued together. The result is a huge spaghetti code monstrosity that constantly fails.

You are treated like a kid and dealt with on a need to know basis

In the end of the day, this company went from a small business to a major company but it hasn't updated any of its procedures or tools. This is not a world class place to work at.
If you entered the company in a unionized position, changes are you'll never move up to management. Managers are hired from the outside and not from within (some rare exceptions apply). To have any advancement or a decent schedule in unionized positions, you have to be an employee for several years because it works on seniority.

I wouldn't recommend working here if you have other options.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut your money where your mouth is, upgrade your system and have consistent policies

Great place to Work

Training Counselor (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at Videotron ltee full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat benefits, above average salaries.
Freedom of work style when you can deliver the objectives set.
Lateral movements and progression is possible and often encouraged

ConsYou must often do things yourself using back doors.
Inter Department cooperation is close to inexistant.
Many of the Directors comes from outside the buisness and don't share the values or the knowledge needed to be truly agile.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote inside employees to the Directors titles because the lack of knowledge in the products, business and the lack of will to achieve excellence is not there.

Great Experience at the beginning but since 2010, they changed their management team and from then everything went worse

Business Development Manager (Former Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I worked at Videotron ltee full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThey still offer good employment conditions for someone who's just stating his professional career, salary is good and the environment is very professional depending on the department where you work

Cons- You'll experience a lot of bad pressure there
- They no longer develop their employees, getting under pressure is not that bad, as long as you get help to improve your skills and be a better employee day after day
- HR don't really take actions on feedback they get from employees
