    Pros

You are face to face, helping the guests with their needs. You meet a lot of people and can make the position into a type of networking. The atmosphere can be party like or hectic but your attitude can make or break you. Start your shift with a smile and you can end it with a smile. Tips are shared with your team mates. Great health benefits at a decent cost.

    Cons

Things are constantly changing at Viejas. The management as well as the building itself. Everyday there is a change in policy, personnel, the way the floor is setup, what your job entails, what you can and cannot do. The tips you earn are shared with everyone that worked that 2-week period 24/7. You get your cut depending on how many hours you worked in that time period. That works for the team member that works a slow shift or doesn't have a good work ethic or attitude. But for a person like me that worked the busiest shift, had a great relationship with all the guests and a great work ethic, all the tips that the guests wanted to give me, had to be shared. My tips went from $100+/shift to $100/week. You work all holidays and probably all weekend or at least most.

    Advice to Management

Know your position and what is really expected of you before you take on your new career. I saw the best supervisors get fired due to a new manager that didn't like to be given any advice. It is a dog eat dog place of work. You work whenever they need you, sometimes double shifts or split shifts.

    Pros

The people are great. I love my supervisors and co-workers. The guests are actually very pleasant compared to any retail job I've worked. It's simple... You just cash out slot vouchers, exhange coin to dollars and cash into different denominations, cash casino chips and promo vouchers, exchange foreign currency, cash jackpots, etc. The guests expect you to be quick when cashing them out. But the job in general is simple.

    Cons

The most challenging has been scheduling and hours. You work every holiday and weekend usually. Getting time off is hard, and you cannot request unless you have enough PTO. Getting full time here is not as easy as they made it seem in the interview. I've been here almost a year and the only opportunities have been graveyard to open up or people with seniority get the position. Advancing in this company is tough, and because of that I'm actually putting in my notice soon. You only get 3 days max- which is 24hours. 2 day minimum.

    Advice to Management

Be honest about what part time entails and how long it really may take to advance.

    Pros

You will meet some of the most amazing team members here, and many of the guests can make your day worthwhile. You can earn PTO quickly, and the dental & health insurance are pretty good.

    Cons

Unethical business practices from HR and GM. HR DOES NOT do anything to help team members, and always side with management. There is no trust, and team members are afraid to come to HR with complaints. These issues have been pointed out to the GM, and he does not seem to care. If you can't go to HR, who can you go to? Viejas used to be a great place to work, but over the last year or so, has become very hostile and stressful work environment. There is one department head in particular that has created a fear culture that is spreading to other departments like wild fire. Again, HR and the GM have done nothing to fix this, and are losing team members left and right.

    Advice to Management

Treat team members as fellow humans. Get rid of the few people that are causing all of these problems. You are losing high performing and long-term employees to these select few people. Be willing to admit you made a mistake in huring them, and move on to someone that knows how to run a business.
To HR and GM-do not allow for retaliation when a team member has the guts to come forward with a complaint.

    Pros

Some fun people, good tips from guests.

    Cons

Poor management, poor scheduling-they will not work with your schedule at all, terrible treatment of employees, back stabbing, favoritism, sexual harassment, guests and employees are unable to have self control, growth is all politically based. Management makes it very clear that employees have no power, no choice, no worth.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff with the dignity they deserve. Here's a hint, it's just as much as your deserve if not more!

    Pros

The health insurance is excellent. The pay is decent. Can be a fun atmosphere to work around.

    Cons

Most of the management lack the needed skills and experience to perform their jobs properly. Professionalism is almost non-existent. Ideas and suggestions from front line employees are not appreciated nor considered.

    Advice to Management

An outside management group is the only way Viejas could ever be anything more than #3 in a three casino market.

    Pros

They pay okay depending on the position you work for.

    Cons

they contradict with their own policy and procedures, so whether you call in sick with a doctors note they still hold that against you.

    Advice to Management

Management should take classes on how to run a department because they clearly do not know what they are doing.
