Current Employee - Real Estate Development Manager in Rungis (France)

I have been working at Vinci full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can get great responsabilities even if you have few experience.

    Cons

Typical French group : too many decision takers, few decisions...
It's possible having initiatives in Vinci, as long as you don't expect to see them employed.
There is a lack of formating : noone has the sensation of being part of one group except of a constellation of small companies forced to live together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear and assumed Real Estate Strategy remains to be built...

I worked at Vinci as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    - A lot of people are willing to help you learn
    - As an intern, work-life balance is easily manageable
    - Competitive salary/benefits as an intern
    - Eager and motivated candidates are easily scouted

    Cons

    - Lack of proper specific mentoring
    - Just another cog in the system
    - Politics at upper management level inevitably trickles down

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Young recruits are more often than not willing to put in the extra effort - management should channel that by nurturing new talent and showing they do care (follow up, mid internship assessment, career orientation interviews...)

I worked at Vinci (less than an year)

    Pros

Would suit a nine to fiver, non-aggressive environment, laid back approach.

    Cons

Too slow in progress. Most employees are middle aged and do not have typical London corporate drive. Boring , grey, drab office environment. Curfew imposed on internet use. No voicemail facility on phones so everyone picks up eachother calls! No mobiles/blackberry/s given unless you are senior managment. Not much recognition for modern methods of working - home/remote working. Hours are 8.45am - 5pm with 45min lunch. Generally boring place for young go getter types! But would suit a close to retirement nine to fiver.

    Pros

Extremely professional, lots of investment in people.

    Cons

Take a while to get thins sorted

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quicker turn around on implementing ideas and listen to front line feedbck, it's invaluable

I have been working at Vinci

    Pros

Team work is the law for all involved in.
High company references level gives it high opportunities to carry out exciting construction projects.
Community of VCGP employees is gravitating arround the world from a project to another, reinforcing company strength by its 'embedded network'.

    Cons

    Free time consuming.
    Better challenge positions at competitor's.
Difficult balance between private and professional life
Too much independance may lead to engage ourself (and others) on wrong path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of what is being learned by junior management, as current juniors are tomorrow's seniors.
This is the best, most efficient and affordable way to elevate company skills to undertake challenging projects.

I have been working at Vinci

    Pros

As part of VINCI PLC, one has the comfort of having a large parent company looking after them.

    Cons

The leadership at VINCI PLC his highly autocratic, with a strong 'David Joyce' says jump and you say 'how high?' mentality. If you are not a manager then you don't get to park close to the office, nor are you welcome in the manager's corridor. Only come here when invited.

    Enjoy it while you can

I have been working at Vinci full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Une très bonne politique d'entreprise qui fait la part belle à l'humain.

    Cons

Les salaires pour les jeunes embauchés ne sont pas élevés et les augmentations ne sont pas non plus conséquentes. Une forte dépendance aux actionnaires également

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The projects are really interesting and the employees' knowledge is unique. They work in a Professional way and you get to delve deeper and deeper into construction. You can't get out of it without knowing almost everything on construction practices.

    Cons

Beaucoup de labeur et de dévouement. Cela ne vous conviendra pas à moins que vous n'appréciez réellement l'ingénierie civile et la construction.

A lot of hardwork and dedication. You wouldn't fit there unless you really enjoy civil engineering and construction.
