I have been working at Virgin Active full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people. Without a doubt that is their number one strength. It's creates a fun atmosphere to work in. I never fear going in to work.

    Cons

The pay is awful. They expect a lot out of the management but with very little reward and this has only got worse in 2014. And whoever recruits for head office need sacking. They have no experience of what it's like in the clubs yet dictate everything we do and are surprised when it fails. Plus their communication is shocking.

Former Employee - Lifeguard in Epsom, England (UK)

I worked at Virgin Active part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

its great to meet people, if you want to advance its good as they support you in certain roles such as fitness instructors, the centres are generally very well maintained and looked after.

    Cons

I didn't get my uniform for 2 months, pay was low compared to other leisure operators, machines in the gym took a long time to fix and was outdated, i got the feeling when i worked there that they didnt want guys on reception, i offered to work on reception to help them out when they were short but shrugged away from it even though i have worked on reception at 3 other companies. no staff socials for everyone was a very specific group of people that went out every weekend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get more people involved on nights out, hold staff socials, give people a chance in different roles, the general manager of Epsom that passed away was amazing and was dearly missed.
