I have been working at Virginia Tech part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

They will schedule you around your classes, and are willing to accommodate if you need to take time off to do homework or study. Also, was free to solve problems my own way, without being micromanaged too much.

    Cons

Older people will question technological solutions to problems, and sometimes being the hourly worker means doing some very boring tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think before assigning tasks that need to be redone constantly to workers.

I worked at Virginia Tech full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many perks depending on the program you work with. Some of the pros included flex schedule, working from home as long as the 40 hrs were completed.

    Cons

Limited professional growth. The possibility of growing was limited to few people. Compensation was extremely low for the amount of responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your staff and help them grow. Appropriate compensation needs to be increased.

I have been working at Virginia Tech part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Virginia Tech allows you to choose your own hours, which makes it easy to work around my busy schedule. Having the ability to choose my own hours allows me to dictate when I work, how often I work, and therefore how much money I make per week.

    Cons

Some of the students that I tutor do not share the same work ethic that I do, which makes tutoring difficult. Due to some of my students' scant work ethic, It often seems like I am helping them pass their classes rather than helping them get A's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This position strengthened my interpersonal, communication, and mentorship skills.

Great work environment. Nice campus. everyone is friendly. I have been here for three years. they pay employee tuition for degree. I got a Master degree here in two years when I am working as full time. Great place to live. Very peaceful.

    Cons

less activities comparing with big cities. The town is too small and sometime is boring. Too far from big cities. The closest ones are Charlotte and DC which is 3 hrs and 4 and half hrs away.

I worked at Virginia Tech as an intern

    Pros

The staff are extremely helpful, and if you can't find your professor you're working for you can usually find a grad student to help you with operating or learning a machine or a process.

    Cons

Finding your professor can be difficult due to class schedules and their personal commitments taking up a huge amount of their time. You're lucky to be able to see them unless they're main focus is your research project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would recommend letting some professors doing intensive research to forego any teaching that is outside of their specific area, and not teach more than one or two classes about it.
