Delivery centric culture that rides the hell out of their employees.

Current Employee - Vice President in Westborough, MA

I have been working at Virtusa full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They do have some good and talented people there. They run a very tight/non-existent bench. The key pre-sales folks they have and key delivery folks they have are really top notch.

    Cons

Zero sales culture. Everyone must be 100% billable. Zero investment in growth. Everyone expected to wear 20 hats, work 6 days a week and 12-14 hours a day. Very tactical views on business with month to month 'beatings' to ensure revenue and margin attainment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a new President, give up on your min. margin expectations and make some real and serious investments in sales, marketing and communications.........and brand identity if you truly want to compete with the big boys.

US Company with 3rd world work culture

Former Employee - Associate Director in Westborough, MA

I worked at Virtusa full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are aggressive and have street smartness of a third world country to circumvent the systems you may become very successful in the company

    Cons

    >The company spends very little money on training its staff in US
    >Because it is small company presence at any client is small (some big clients are exception to the rule) so there is absolutely no mentoring available as you may be the only person at the site.
    > Most people at Virtusa are playing a stretch role so they suck at their current position even if they are talented, leading to chaos at every function. This comment is valid for the executive team as well
    > The yearly review process is completely broken; some issues are:
-The supervisors are not close to their reportees performance
    - The written reviews are not enforced by the company, the employees most often end up with a grade (which in itself makes the employees feel like a juvenile) for the quarterly/yearly review with almost no support for it
-Promotions are mostly based on tenures and whoever asks first and not as a reward for performance or recognition of employees potential
-If and when you get promoted don't expect a raise
    > Just like a third world country a class system exist within the company, for example depending on whether you are an employee of Virtusa India or US you may be put in a different hotel

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

instead of bringing Asian work culture to US, embrace the progressive ethos of the local culture. Treat employees with respect, spend on their development, focus on bringing real value to you clients.

I have been working at Virtusa

    Pros

For those looking to learn, there are ample opportunities as you are in consulting environment. Decent pay for US hired employees

    Cons

Sr. mgmt is literally there with a gun to your head makin sure you work hard. Micro mgmt. Clubby environment at the top. Not much flexibility in deviating from their "process'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just observe your Sr Mgmt closely. Maybe you need some changes at the top
