I have been working at Visa Europe as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Some freedom in terms of how you work, great location near Paddington station, many employees do care about delivering quality products. Good to have on the CV.

    Cons

Too many employees are not up to their roles, unbelievably complex and obstructive management structure, despite restructuring very little has changed because the same lackeys and jobsworths are still there (and in some cases higher up the management chain now), terrible agreements with suppliers, dated and overburdened technology framework that is no longer fit for purpose.

Visa realises that the future is digital, but that's about as far as they've got. They simply do not have the organisational structure or the talent to figure out how to pivot successfully into the digital space and "own" the future of payments. Reading strategic presentations on their intranet was the revelation for me - the same hackneyed phrases ("fail fast", "foster innovation") stood out in Powerpoint decks from four years ago just as they do today without any evidence of progress. But management seems to believe every time they re-organise the business that it's going to be different this time. No it's not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the lessons of the past. Abandon your dated organisational structure, stop protecting ineffective senior managers and recognise real innovation in the ranks. Then actually exploit that innovation. Look at the companies in this space that are on the ascent - they don't look like VE and there are very good reasons for that.

    Death of a good company

I have been working at Visa Europe full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Holiday policy good. Corporate responsibility opportunities available.

    Cons

Everything that made Visa Europe a good company to work for has been eroded. The company has lost sight of the value of it's people and this company is nothing without them. The best personnel are leaving in their droves, taking huge amounts of knowledge with them. A large number are dissatisfied and considering leaving in the new year, the most positive people are struggling to maintain any enthusiasm and motivation. Management are oblivious to the level of impact to morale on the on-the-ground staff. Management are not listening to the employees.

Visa has good values, but it doesn't follow them. Leaders say the right things, but they don't follow through.
The company has seemingly no control over it's finances, making tiny savings in some areas, but wasting vast sums of money elsewhere, leading to further reduction in morale.

Visa is slow, we don't think strategically when making technology decisions; the funding method for projects is fundamentally flawed, solutions built in silos don't take advantage of the benefits of shared facilities. Aging, slow, overly operationally burdensome solutions and lack of focus on newer solutions offers no motivation for technology enthusiasts to remain with or join the company.

Funding has been cut for pay increases, bonuses, personal growth, sickness benefit and pensions.

Visa staff are mourning the loss of a good company. Long-term future is uncertain.

I have been working at Visa Europe full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Considering that a great deal of knowledge has already left the company with the new re-organisation, there are still a few very good colleagues to work with and are very knowledgeable.

    Cons

since the new structure of the company it seems that it has lost it's soul. It does not feel like I am working for a great company but rather one of many.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are better ways of saving the company money by making it more effective and more profitable. You don't have to necessarily get rid of your best people. Benefits like DB pension scheme is being reviewed without proper consultation and affected members of the plan are not given enough time and/or legal advise to make the right decisions. Proposals are not fit to everyone and the plan could be an extremely high percentage cut of annual salary.

I have been working at Visa Europe full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The brand attracts a large amount of people that are very good at their job which manifests in a high quality and professional working environment. The benefits are relatively good, especially when you consider the state of the financial services industry and the scrutiny they are under at the minute.

    Cons

2014 has seen a huge amount of change - I'd advise people to approach with caution until the dust settles - there are perhaps some people who have risen to above their level of incompetence due to the re-organisation.

There is no pervasive company culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking that external consultants know the industry or the business better than your own staff!! Leverage the knowledge and passion of your own people instead of de-motivating them by paying consultants triple the amount of money for a fraction of the value and insight.

Will suit you if you live in the past as that's where the mentality and technology come from.

    Cons

Too many mangers blaming us grunts for clocking off at 4.30 because it's not our problem but those who do have been in the office from 7am but they wouldn't know as they stroll in at 9.30/10.00am as its not their problem either apparently
Nobody takes responsibility for their own area
Too many politicians who stab you in the back at the first opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We understand the reasons for change and support it but you have gone about things very badly and you have prompted some people for no reason other than "they applied and were here". You have got some very poor "managers" who have their own agenda and you expect us to put up with them.
