    Pros

Good pay, reasonable hours, stable business model, good opportunities for advancement for competent employees, good professional development programs. New younger leadership team has refreshed a company culture that had grown stale.

    Cons

Work force is older, with many folks waiting for retirement. Takes SO long to get anything done because of PTO schedules and bureaucracy. People LOVE to complain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep renovating the company culture, and preserve the emphasis on employee work-life balance

Current Employee - Senior Director Product in Foster City, CA

    Pros

Great brand recognition. Decent pay and benefits with a generous PTO schedule.

    Cons

Aside from the convergence to digitization of payments, much of the business is commoditized. You are swimming in a red ocean that fosters a culture of hostility and backstabbing. Every week takes 20 pounds of psychic energy to get through. A lot of people taking credit for other people's work. The amount of red tape to get something done completely paralyzes you--and know one will help you or say a kind word during the process. I've worked at other Fortune 500's, but the level of buearucracy here takes the cake. They want everything defined up front. The whole reason start ups are innovative is the flexibility to be agile as things change too quickly in technology. The process doesn't allow for fresh or out of the box thinking. Everyone is spread so thin, be prepared to write your own contracts b/c legal has no time, manage your own ARCHAIC procurement process, and be a bean counter as well because finance wants you to plan a year ahead and forecast accounts payables monthly. And everything above $250k needs to be approved by Ryan and Charlie (we're 60% profit margins!!!)

There is a plethora of product managers who revel in making things more complicated than they need to be as it gives them a false sense of value or will somehow make them indispensable. Everyone is boiling the ocean to bring relevance to their benign position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be surgical about your reorganization and cuts. Don't assume those of us who've been there 4 years or less are part of the incompetent old regime. Need to meet with the Sr Directors and below to truly know what's going on. 360 degree reviews would also allow for greater accountability among teams. And for the love of god, do something about the incompetency of GS. They consistently deliver the kitchen sink without the plumbing...at the highest price!
