Executive management and board are driving this company into the ground

I have been working at Visa Inc.

    Pros

    Good pay.
    Nice paid time off.
Working for a company with a great brand

    Cons

Charlie clearly does not have the skills to conduct Q&A sessions in all staff meetings. he is disrespectful to employees who pose questions. He has a very bad temper and is quite impatient. Not able to communicate strategy although he has tons of slides and meetings to justify that he can. In addition, it would be interesting to understand why rajat, the CIO, who is under investigation from his previous company for insider trading was given an executive management role at visa.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to the board- get your head out of the sand and look what has happened to our revenue growth and employee satisfaction with this new executive team. Get the CEO an executive coach.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time

    Pros

Good pay, mediocre benefits at best.

    Cons

Poor management at most levels although individual contributors are frequently excellent. Lots of politics, favoritism. West coast HQ is way, way over-staffed. There is no work-life balance in most positions.

I worked at Visa Inc. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company provides excellent pay and benefits as well as good facilities. The HQ location is an easy commute for bay area residents. Visa is a very strong brand and looks great on a resume.

    Cons

Executive management and leadership has been an issue here for years. There is so much energy put into internal politics that the business focus suffers. Now that the company is public, this should be less of an issue. Internal processes can be bureaucratic and frustrating - it takes a long time to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get clear with a vision, empower leadership and hold teams accountable. No more regional politics.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are technical opportunities for those qualified; Benefits are good given the changes in the business environment.

    Cons

Too much focus on PMP process; new mgmt has installed new processes related to hiring and forcing competitive bids on projects both of which can involve a lot of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back on the process --- Sr Managers should have, understand and be responsible for their decisions, budget and deliverables --- Upper management could then focus on direction.

Good place to be a consultant

Current Employee - Senior Database Engineer in Bellevue, WA

I have been working at Visa Inc. as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

I worked there as an Oracle consultant for 2 years. It's a good environment - people are friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to design and develop a lot of new code to improve their system. My efforts were appreciated and supported by my immediate team (Database Engineering) and by team of java developers who used my code.

    Cons

It takes a lot of time to get something done by infrastructure teams - get access to Unix servers, get space added, change database parameters. Relationship between SysAdmin and DBA teams is not clear and it seems relationship is not clear to respective team members themselves.

I worked at Visa Inc. as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The professionalism, procedures and structure of Visa is unsurpassed. This is the most intelligent and focused group I've ever worked with. I enjoyed the 'formal' atmosphere and the dedication to meeting deadlines.

    Cons

This is a double-edged sword - While the projects have assertive delivery dates; there is also not much room or time to make personal connections. This is truly WORK and not play. One has to understand and be comfortable with the formality and executive feel of this company to be happy working here. If you're looking for a layed-back environment; this is not the company to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is some redundancy to the procedures (marketing campaign department) - does everything need to be triple checked? If so, this seems like a waste of money and resources. Review procedures with employees and be clear on expectations.

Solid Sr. Management that empower people to do their work and recognize them for achievement. Tolerance for making mistakes and learning with it. Competitive compensation and benefits package. Lots of opportunities to grow.

    Cons

In constant transformation which requires high level of adaptability from employees.

    Pros

Great environment, culture and terrific professionals. You will have all the resources you need to succeed at your projects and senior managers are easy to reach

    Cons

Innovation vs maintaining brand values are always hard to balance, and that makes Visa to do very small, but secure steps towards product innovation.
