Vishay will be shutting down Siliconix at the latter of 2015 or early in 2016. I'll miss working at Siliconix and with all the wonderful people.

I worked at Vishay Siliconix full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I was able to work a professional level job on a part-time basis. The management was very accommodating and flexible.

    Cons

When Siliconix was bought out by Vishay, things changed from being a small company atmosphere to a more rigid large company environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to bring back some of the way things were in the pre-Vishay days.

Everyone is ready to help when stuck.

    Cons

    Still using really old technology

    Too much micromanaging.
No stocks for regular employees, only meant for top 10% of the total head count of the company.

    Not so friendly work environment.

Current Employee - Failure Analysis Engineer in Santa Clarita, CA
Current Employee - Failure Analysis Engineer in Santa Clarita, CA

I have been working at Vishay Siliconix full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The company has strict principles on the quality of their semiconductor devices. HR is easy is deal with, and they are friendly.

    Cons

Senior engineers don't respect new or junior engineers. They don't want to share knowledge with the new hires. People from different departments are pointing fingers to each other. This company has poor upper management. They want to hire as many temporary engineers as they could without ever considering transitioning them to permanent positions. Department heads don't realize there is a learning curve for new hires, and they want the new hires to do perfect jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to make temporary hires to permanent positions if they have the talents the company needs. Saving money by limiting this transition would only make people leave this company, and that would slow down the company operations.
