    A sinking ship

    Management (Former Employee)

Prosthe kids you get to work with and the other staff members make the experience of working here bearable.

Consmanagement is a mess...they spend money on irrelevant things, while cutting services and salaries and laying people off left and right. The CEO flies all over the country and has 'management meetings' at his beach house on the company dime, while the front line workers are being made to take furlough days.

Advice to Senior Managementthere are several good people in the corporate office, but their advice is generally ignored because it doesn't allow the rest of them to continue to spend money as they please.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great experience with troubled adolescent youth

    Child Care Worker (Former Employee)
    New Lisbon, NJ

Prosgreat experience working with troubled adolescents. Visionquest helped to prepare me for social service employment in the future with adolescents. You learn how to build relationships with the adolescents. As a staff of Visionquest, you also learn about some therapeutic interventsions used to treat the residnests. You also have the oppurtunity to conduct and facilitate groups.

ConsUpper Management not understanding of Employees, Direct care staff under staffed (very little staff support in the field). the youth are manipulative and you must be strong enough to deal with the emotional rollercoaster that is imminent.
The Youth are very unpredictatble. Therapuetic holds are utilized to control youths behaviors, which can be dangerous for the staff as well as the child being held.

Advice to Senior Managementhire more direct care staff members

    VisionQuest, truly employee-owned!

    Director (Current Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsVisionQuest's mission and purpose make it worth the stress and hassle.

ConsThe downside is part of what effects all agencies in the business, you are constrained by the lack of funding from city/county government. VisionQuest employees are some of the hardest working employees in the field because of their commitment to kids and they have bought into the VisionQuest "fabric". Sometimes this commitment can be exploited and the employees, especially the exempt ones are taken advantage of and overworked. Lastly, VisionQuest's long and sorted history sometimes comes back to bite current programs in the butt. Things that happened years ago effect current leadership and that impacts every aspect of business.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open-minded to your middle managers. They are the ones that have their finger on the pulse.
