    Pros

The idea for this enterprise started in 1957. It's a wonderful idea. Read all of the comments here, as there might be some over-representation of happy thoughts from new folks encouraged to post.

    Cons

Changes in ownership have created turnover in HQ, with the latest in a series of CEOs firing the president. The whole world reads about this on line - See the 84 court filings involving the CEO, available in the public records at San Diego Superior Court, Register of Actions - enter year 2014 and case 16140. Many new chairs have approached hundreds of potential members yet failed to launch, which makes it difficult to market.

    Pros

Excellent Service for Business Leaders. Value proposition is compelling to business leaders in small to medium sized enterprise. Committed sales and marketing team.

    Cons

Brand awareness is low. Young President's Organization is better known among SMEs. More resources need to be devoted to growing brand recognition to accelerate company growth.

    Advice to Management

Investment spend to accelerate brand awareness among business leaders. There is a limit to the extent Member referrals can drive business growth.

They have some good managers and some bad managers - unfortunately, I had a bad manager....would have stayed if I worked for one of the good managers.

    Pros

A tremendously great organization with a super cool culture of learning and development. I'd been here for quite awhile and the learning never ends. I truly enjoy it here.

    Cons

You need to be a high performer to be here! We have lofty goals and they are always being adjusted.

    Advice to Management

Take time with developing goals and continue with learning and development of staff.

    Pros

I've been here for awhile and it has been great! Yes there have been bumps and changes, but they are the true deal. I appreciate all they do for the community.

    Cons

My job can be done remotely. And the company should embrace it.

    Advice to Management

Look at work from home possibilities.

    Pros

Company has a great vision and mission. Better leadership will drive jobs in small businesses around the world! Fabulous culture and moral in San Diego.

    Cons

Could embrace virtual work locations more - mentality is that all jobs need to be in San Diego.

    Advice to Management

Evangelize the great work the company does more!

    Pros

Very little bureaucracy. Can make an immediate impact. Company trusts employees on IT resources. Lots of challenges meant lots opportunity to learn. Some really nice people. Great holiday party. Company seems to genuinely care about its employees. Company is very profitable.

    Cons

Company has big visions for its digital products, but does not hire enough engineers to accomplish its vision because it does not see itself as a tech company. It relies on contract developers for a lot of the work, but outsourcing has lots of downsides, including communication barrier, time difference, turn over, slow connection, lack of understanding about how things work. For the onsite employee, this meant long and stressful working conditions. The pay didn't compensate for that.

    Advice to Management

Hire management that has a software development background. Hire more engineers instead of outsourcing.

    Pros

Great colleagues, enriching work, good training

    Cons

Antiquated systems, unknown brand, recent management change and take over by private equity investor

    Advice to Management

Invest more in local staff - currently spread too thin. Do not allow chair candidates / newbies to spoil Vistage name and prospects. I'd use an apprenticeship program to ensure that this doesn't occur.
