I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Learning about supplements and 20 percent discount. Helping people that don't know a thing about health or supplements.

    Cons

Too much to do and not enough pay to make someone happy for everything you do. Annoying customers that think your a god or their personal doctor wanting you to guide them to your public restroom while you save them from a heart attack. They can't understand you have a million things to do with only one person to help you out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop trying to save money! Pay people more when we are truly saving lives and doing everything with barely any personal lives of our own.

    Pros

    Employee Discount is not bad.

    Cons

Hire mature individuals as head supervisors. Promote growth and learning, not nitpicking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inappropriate remarks and behavior should not be tolerated. Wish the culture was more mature, less childish.

I worked at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The discount is nice. Meeting customers and other employees that care about Health and wellness.

    Cons

    So many cons.....
    1. Company expects so much passion and hard work, yet does not reward employees for hard work
    2. DM fires people for the wrong reasons yet keeps complete suck up, lazy employees staffed
    3. The hours expected to work for store manager is ridiculous
    4. Store managers are Micromanaged and can't make any decisions on hiring/firing, merchandising on their own yet they are held accountable for the DM, LP manager, and HR poor decisions
    5. Seriously get cameras!!! Customer service should not be the only theft deterrent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why waste any more of my time. I only wrote this to deter good people from applying to a horrible, greedy company that couldn't care less about good people.

    I worked at Vitamin Shoppe

    Pros

It was only a summer internship but I learned a lot and truly felt like an equal and not an "intern" per day

    Cons

I don't have anything negative to say, also wasn't there long enough to experience it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe better opportunities for a full time position

    I worked at Vitamin Shoppe

    Pros

Not a commission based pay but could pay a little better. Management does not make it a pushy atmosphere like the competition. Continues product education.

    Cons

Lack of operational training. Not enough internal promotion of upper management. A lot of work without the staff to do all that's expected.

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time

    Pros

In 29+ years of the company history there was not a single layoff, even during hardest times (2009). People work there for many years. It is well-structured and quality-minded.
The President has gone long way from his garage in 1985 to more than 1,250 employees (and growing); he deserves admiration.

    Cons

Not too open socially. A little more open atmosphere would feel better, but, after all, this is a business, not a country club, so no hard feelings.
HR is not very people-friendly, but, again, this is nothing compared to real job security we have here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All things considered, a great place to work.

I worked at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong vision of supporting wellness to customers and associates with adequate training for the jobs. Retail work environment is pleasant and not overly difficult. Opportunities to advance personal health knowledge and share, educate customers and staff

    Cons

Low wages at every level at retail. Limited advancement beyond store manager. Employee discount is nice but who can afford supplements on the pay? The business could be obliterated by changes in laws which are constantly being pushed in the legislature.

    Pros

expand your knowledge of the industry

    Cons

    no opportunity for advancement
    high turnover rate
    management is biased
    low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a lot of talk how people are promoted from within but that is not the case. Give opportunities for growth and movement. Take ideas from those who work on the floor and implement them for better flow. Dont put people in a store management position when it is clear they cannot manage.
