    Pros

There is nothing positive to address.

    Cons

24/7 Chaos. Never enough nursing staff and the management team is horrendous. No appreciation for the employee and nonstop backstabbing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

close the doors. You are totally incompetent.

I have been working at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, opportunity to make a difference for terminal patients and their families.

    Cons

Focus is on intake of new patients rather than hiring enough staff to care for existing patients. Leadership is lacking, micromanagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

R would be nice if staff were appreciated and adequately compensated. Treat professionals like adults rather than children to be monitored and criticized constantly.

Provides exceptional, compassionate, patient care. Unfortunately, not a compassionate place to work!

I have been working at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care full-time

    Pros

An absolute leader in hospice care. Provides best patient care and service around! Employees work hard and from their hearts.

    Cons

Unfortunately, employees are treated like non-feeling machines. Never good enough, always negative, and managers are TRAINED to criticize and document routine unfavorable reports. Very poor morale!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to provide some (even if minimal) positive feedback to your employees, once in a while. Your employees are the backbone of your company. You have many excellent, hard-working, and dedicated staff, but constantly reprimanded... as spoken by a once passionate, dedicated, employee. Now a brow-beaten, and broken, employee. And many more like me!!!

    Hospice Care

I worked at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The best part about working here is that you get to improve the lives of others. It's something you can feel satisfied from doing at the end of the day.

    Cons

Taking care of the patients comes with a variety of challenges. For example sometimes a patient has difficulty understanding what it is you want from them so they can be unresponsive or argumentative.

Sacramento VITAS has the right idea if you're a patient... But if you're an employee it is a different story

I worked at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Senior Management is very focused on patient care, they trust clinical staff to do what they do best and what they love to do. Sacramento Vitas is really good at keeping to their first value 'Patients and Families Come First'. Senior management and HR care about the employees ensuring they get the training and tools they need to care for patients.

    Cons

Employees of VITAS are not valued at the corporate level - management in Sacramento and at other VITAS locations are limited in what they can do - the pay is way below market standard for all positions and pay freezes (for 2 years now) make it difficult for employees to make ends meet. Benefits have been cut each year for the last 5 years. There is very limited opportunity for growth and zero work life balance. High expectations without a high return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember how important employees are and show you value them. Remember your 2nd value 'We Take Care of Each Other' and how important it is in achieving Vitas' overall goals. You can't take good care of patients without good employees and you can't get/keep good employees unless you take good care of them.

I worked at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care

    Pros

Hospice appropriate patients that need care.

    Cons

Disorganized management, sales driven health care company, lack of supplies, large area of travel, unrealistic expectations for tasks to be completed in a forty hour work week, lack of support, difficult payroll system, and no computerized charting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Front load staffing to meet census growth.

Might want to reconsider working for VITAS Jacksonville

I have been working at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care full-time

    Pros

Good salary, positive work helping with patients and families

    Cons

VITAS Jacksonville is going to force employees to carry VITAS cell-phones, so VITAS could track employees' every move and location. Assigned on-call and forced to work over-time while not given comp time for the work, pays docked for staying home the next day after staff out all night on-call. VITAS docked thousands and thousands of dollars by government when VITAS hires people they like, rather than those competent and experienced for the jobs. Field workers (RNs, social workers, chaplains, etc.) can expect to work and travel many hours sun-up to sun-down, with no corresponding pay. Management not hired for their proficiency with hospice or as managers, but for numbers..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More attention needs to be paid to monitoring VITAS Jacksonville management before VITAS JAcksonville makes the national news.

I worked at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

the patients and ONLY the patients

    Cons

Pts and families come first yea right! not any more--money comes first. The Naples office wont even give geri sleeves anymore to pts.(only one example). They'd rather let pts get skin tears and possible infections and pay hundreds of dollars on the back end vs. a few bucks up front. We take care of each other--only if you go with the in crowd and cheat the company out out of money. Yea you heard me right. I guess its just easier to enter 040 office administrative time when you are out of the office vs. entering your PTO. Its a shame Vitas used to be such a wonderful company to work for until the takeover/buyout.. Now employees don't even get raises--yea its been over three years now for raises. Pretty pathetic for such a large company. They care nothing about their patients or employees! You can't keep screwing the little people for ever! That wont get you anywhere in the long run.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate management--a joke too. They were aware of the payroll fraud and did nothing about it! WAKE UP TIM! Your company has gone and will keep going down hill if it continues on the same path.

Vitas a nice company to work for

    Pros

This company is very flexable job. If you are a working parent with other responsiblities it is nice to have a job that understands that.

    Cons

If you are working PRN sometimes it is hard to get hours. All of the available hours will go to the other employees first.
