Pros
Good pay and bonus structure.
Great benefits and perks(free lunch fridays, discounted gym, and free yoga).
Amazing people.
Great location.
One of the best companies to work for. I had a great boss---I could question/critique any decision of his. My team was a rare combination of very smart AND nice people. Everyone else(outside my team) also were nice and capable people. I got considerable project responsibilities only three-months into my job, and was give a lot of freedom in how I do my job. I'd definitely recommend Vivisimo as a workplace.
Cons
Learning curve of the product was HUGE when I came in.
It was difficult to find product-related information(I did not know where to look/who to ask).
Had to work with XSLT and some legacy products.
Advice to Senior Management
This is to all management, and not just to Reston:
Continue what you are doing with the new product effort.
Communication is always good.
Pros
Good benefits; free lunch Friday; professional organization;
Cons
No career path; excellent performance not rewarded; favoritism displayed for certain employees/departments; unable to obtain additional resources
Advice to Senior Management
become more visible; respect the opinions and judgments of your key staff; match your actions to your words;
Pros
growing company; customers love us; great product; company cares about employees
Cons
product sales can be a long sales cycle
Pros
The company is transitioning from enterprise search to Information Optimization. Although not an easy challenge it has been doing a great job of iterating through this transition.
Cons
With the company's new strategy there is substantial change. It is being worked through in a reasonable manner, but change can always be difficult for some to accept.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase the amount of communication to the team. During times of change you can never over communicate.
Pros
Fast growing
Experienced management
Lots of smart people to work with
Great technology
Limited outside investment so options are likely worth $$$$
Cons
Some growing pains (e.g., communications is becoming more tedious)
Has had difficulties finding proper focus because the technology can be applied to so many areas
Advice to Senior Management
As company is growing don't forget to nurture the employees
There are lots of high profile partners that could benefit from Vivisimo technology
