Former Employee – worked at Vlerick full-time for more than a year
Pros – Excellent work environment. Great people. Amazing flexibility to follow your own research agenda. Encouraged to enter a Phd track.
Cons – Competitive student environment can be stressful at times. Can also make for some excellent students.
Of course they can always pay more!
Advice to Senior Management – Encourage the growth of research in more progressive areas outside of the traditional B-school world. Ethics, Sustainability, Ecommerce, etc.

Former Employee – worked at Vlerick full-time for less than a year
Pros – It's an academic environment but with a business edge; for people so inclined, it presents a nice balance. Among the researchers and more junior people, there is a good culture, and some of the senior people and professors are very open to mentorship.
Cons – As a business school, one would expect Vlerick to apply what it teaches, particularly in regards to people management. Nonetheless, the evaluation, promotion and compensation systems are very weak and intransparent. Futhermore, the most senior management completely ignores the juniors, barely even saying hello when they pass in the corridors.
Advice to Senior Management – Show more respect to the juniors, and provide them with more regular insight on the overall activities and strategy of the school. Build a stronger mentoring system for juniors. Provide more clarity around the evaluation, promotion and compensation.

Former Employee – worked at Vlerick full-time for more than a year
Pros – - good work-life balance
- diverse work
- overall great atosphere amongst colleagues
- World famous in Belgium (but not beyond)
Cons – - low and stagnant pay
- PhD opportunities pretty much non-existent for researchers, because of lack of funding and time.
- reserachers are seen a cheap and replacable resource
- great academic claims by manangement, yet little academic output.
- average ranking
Advice to Senior Management – - Create growth opportunities for ambitous reseachers.
- Be honest about PhD opportunities
- the partnership structure makes it a slow organisation with a lot of conflicting interests. Too many little kingdoms.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
