    Great Place to Work

Research Associate (Former Employee) Gent (Belgium)

ProsExcellent work environment. Great people. Amazing flexibility to follow your own research agenda. Encouraged to enter a Phd track.

ConsCompetitive student environment can be stressful at times. Can also make for some excellent students.

Of course they can always pay more!

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage the growth of research in more progressive areas outside of the traditional B-school world. Ethics, Sustainability, Ecommerce, etc.

    Doesn't practice what it preaches

Research Associate (Former Employee) Leuven (Belgium)

ProsIt's an academic environment but with a business edge; for people so inclined, it presents a nice balance. Among the researchers and more junior people, there is a good culture, and some of the senior people and professors are very open to mentorship.

ConsAs a business school, one would expect Vlerick to apply what it teaches, particularly in regards to people management. Nonetheless, the evaluation, promotion and compensation systems are very weak and intransparent. Futhermore, the most senior management completely ignores the juniors, barely even saying hello when they pass in the corridors.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow more respect to the juniors, and provide them with more regular insight on the overall activities and strategy of the school. Build a stronger mentoring system for juniors. Provide more clarity around the evaluation, promotion and compensation.

Great name, but there are lots of opportunities for improvement

    Junior Researcher (Former Employee)

    Pros- good work-life balance
    - diverse work
    - overall great atosphere amongst colleagues
    - World famous in Belgium (but not beyond)

    Cons- low and stagnant pay
    - PhD opportunities pretty much non-existent for researchers, because of lack of funding and time.
    - reserachers are seen a cheap and replacable resource
    - great academic claims by manangement, yet little academic output.
    - average ranking

Advice to Senior Management- Create growth opportunities for ambitous reseachers.
    - Be honest about PhD opportunities
    - the partnership structure makes it a slow organisation with a lot of conflicting interests. Too many little kingdoms.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good place to work - if you like research

    Intern (Current Employee) Ghent (Belgium)

    Pros-interesting competence centres
-top professors as well as high-level business leaders associated with the school
-school focusses on networking and entrepreneurship

Cons-students recruited are sometimes not top-class
-it is not yet the top-school, but it is growing
-ghent and leuven are nice cities, but maybe not attractive from a global point of view

Advice to Senior Management-try to recruit more top international students, improve the student hiring process

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
