Work environment, people, benefits, company reputation, leader in the field, recognition of efforts made in defence of the company and the customers

    Cons

Not enough growth opportunities, heavily focused on cost saving, in strategic areas that reqyire investment, duality of criteria between the uk opco and other opcos of the group

    I worked at Vodafone

    Pros

    Great Diversity
    Great offices and dynamic culture
Global with lots of global interaction
    People are great

    Cons

Balance shifted to work rather than work and life
Quite political with focus on positioning, networking and self-promoting
Leadership - right place right time - rather than offered on merit
    Lack of physical HR presence
Internal approvals very difficult to achieve leading to frustrations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in employee retention as experience gained there is amazing and highly in demand by other companies - shame that Vodafone cannot retain it

    Pros

Chance to touch Enterprise level products

    Cons

Very slow, not a good place to get promoted, the moment you complain about not being paid market rates-they start finding ways to cut your bonus and find faults with you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop your snobbish culture and remember that the intelligent ones that are leaving Vodafone will one day come back to give you the returns with interest

    Pros

Great people with a good package

    Cons

you are a very small cog in a very large company and you don't know sometime why you are asked to do things and if you challenge mgmt - then you'll know about it later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Yes you have a good brand - but unfortnately too many staff members rely on that to get things done rather than working to achieve their goals!

Regular rounds of redundancies and bullying/disinterested management makes working there unattractive.

I worked at Vodafone full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good facilities and home working possibilities. A few good people left at the coal face make working there a bit more bearable.

    Cons

Redundancies every 6 months so if you get past the end of March and end of sept then you're safe for another 6 months.
Bullying management who are not aware of what their people actually do. They are driven by targets to get rid of people - never mind their performance.
Regular knee jerk crises with little productive cross functional co-operative working due to everyone being 120% overloaded and lack of support from management.
You are a very very small cog in a monstrous juggernaut.
Basically not much fun to work there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do less better so you don't keep having to fire people.
Incentivise your management to be more co-operative and less about losing staff and reducing costs.

I have been working at Vodafone full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of support is available from your team/line manager and there is a vast array of self assessment and learning tools available if you're interested in a particular area.

    Cons

It can be difficult to get everyone in a room required to make a decision as it is such a fractal environment with dedicated teams and it can be difficult to know who to talk to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strip out some of the politics and do more to promote better team work within wider teams but more importantly across different departments that have a heavy reliance on one another.

I have been working at Vodafone as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

New leadership as of January 2014. Open and approachable style, positive mindset, flexible and eager to compete. Lateral career opportunities definitely exist for people who are keen and effective at networking: a good place to build a stable career, if not a stellar one. Great emphasis on diversity and work/life balance.

    Cons

Cumbersome and bureaucratic in decision-making as a result of its size. Emphasis on positive mindset leads them to take the competition less seriously than they could do. They tend to favour bringing in more senior leaders from outside than promoting home-grown talent: a possible lack of opportunity to move upwards?

I have been working at Vodafone full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

You could get away with murder because management didn't have a clue what they were doing.
If you like a 4 day working week this is the place for you. Very little was ever achieved on a Friday.
Good redundancy/compromise agreements - a lot of people only stay there because they are hoping to be made redundant.

    Cons

Nobody picks up their phone or rarely reply to voicemails.
    Process were convoluted.
A steady stream of redundancies on an annual/bi-annual basis (not a bad thing if you've been there a few years).
    Bullies within management.
I have never worked for a company were the majority of people weren't willing to take ownership.
Meetings about meetings with little to no outcome from either. Your attendees would be late because they were in the queue at one of the coffee shops.
A market follower rather than a market leader and slow at doing that.
Better packages paid by their competitors and forget a decent pay rise if you're promoted. You will soon be paid significantly less than your peers who have joined from outside Vodafone.
Over priced canteen and the quality of the food is poor.
The work/life balance is appalling. You are expected to be contactable even whilst on leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shed the weight, become agile, be innovative, empower employees.
