I have been working at Vodafone full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great team in Vodafone - really enthusiastic and high energy in the Enterprise team. Brilliant facility in Dubin where flexible working is fully embraced. Fast paced, innovative, competitive and lots of collaborative working across departments.

    Cons

Fast paced nature sometimes leads to lack of clear processes as new services are developed - sometimes leads to overlap in working and some disarray.

I have been working at Vodafone full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The Paddington office is brightly and recently decorated and easily accessible being next to bus stops and the Paddington overground and underground train stations.

    Cons

There is a strong culture of bullying within all layers at Vodafone. The majority of people here are highly unprofessional, examples include: writing whole emails in capital letters (i.e. shouting via email!), undermining each other in meetings with numerous people present (no hesitation when doing this - employees seem to enjoy being rude to each other), senior management not turning up to meetings with no reasons being given, other individuals not turning up to meetings or being late (often queuing for a drink from the staff canteen), employees forwarding emails with comments that clearly weren't meant to be seen by a wider audience. I've flagged all of these examples with my own line manager and the response was 'it is what it is'.
The Paddington office is always crammed on a Monday or any days where there are departmental meetings going on and you aren't always guaranteed a desk to sit at due to the 'hot desk' set up here.
The Newbury office is in the middle of nowhere and if you have to use public transport the whole way, you have to time your underground train, overground train and Newbury bus perfectly for the journey to be bearable. Obviously being the HQ, I'd say don't work at Vodafone (even in a London based role, as you will have to travel more than they disclose at interview stage) if you can't get to Newbury easily. Definitely visit these offices in interview stage to get an idea of whether this journey is going to be bearable for you.
There's a lack of team spirit within my own department, I'm sure this is due to the multiple site locations, hot desking and also individuals working from home i.e. you could potentially not see a close team member for a whole week even though you're both working full time.
All in all, I've found Vodafone to be very unprofessional, very unwelcoming with a strong culture of bullying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address the culture at Vodafone if you want to attract and retain good people. Turn up to your own meetings. Act as an example to your teams - it is evident that all layers at Vodafone are learning the acceptable behaviour standards from the top layers.

I have been working at Vodafone full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Friendly, helpful colleagues.
    - Flexible working which is output based.
    - Quality and experience of staff.
    - Work life balance

    Cons

    - Telling that the Group CEO left his previous position (after shareholder criticism) at RCS MediaGroup for lack of Strategy or Governance. He seems to have brought that along with him...
    - There are a number of (more senior) staff that are simply waiting for their golden handshake.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a (well thought through) strategy and (more importantly) have the guts to stick to it for more than 8 months.
Stop the political BS between Group & Local markets and learn how to work together. O2 has done it, why cant you?
Stop messing staff around with the constant upheaval. Eventually, you will run out of good staff that are prepared to work for you. There are other employers out there. You are not the be all and end all of the mobile industry...

    I worked at Vodafone

    Pros

Colleagues were amazing, large group and very welcoming to new staff, often met up outside of work

    Cons

    - Managers spend no time on shop floor and seemed hesitant to speak to customers when asked.
    - Changes often given at the last minute with little time to prepare
    - Inflexible with contracted hours and holiday - lots of petty arguments over this

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more of an equal and share some of the not so fun and easy work.
Accept that employees have a life outside of work, if they are on a day off and cannot come into cover do not use it against them!

I have been working at Vodafone full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Stable and profitable company with opportunity for the right person to develop and progress. Good flexible benefits system. Flexible working practises have up and down sides

    Cons

HR practises belong in the stone age. Middle management generally intellectually compromised. Feeling the pains of trying to mature in an immature sector. Layers are often disconnected with each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider employing managers on their ability to manage people, not how well they play upwards and deliver tasks. Publish pay bands to open up the system, which most people feel is too secretive and subjective.
