    Pros

Great products, reasonable salary, and great teammates!

Not enough room for professional growth and salary comparable to the market.

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This company has growing pains like all mid-size companies. But, all things considered, it's a solid team who strive to improve the lives of patients.

    Cons

Workloads can be intense, as resources are tight. Difficulty in prioritizing projects over the long term. Lots of juggling required to be successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep growing and evolving as we transition from a small company to a big company.

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very smart, high-integrity people. A lot of honesty and cooperation. Few if any jerks. Lots of interesting challenges in a dynamic industry with the potential to save or improve thousands of lives.

    Cons

Small/mid-sized company competing with giants. Strategic mistakes/misdirection and false starts that are a natural part of the growing pains for a $300-400M company but that put in doubt whether all the effort and hard work will ultimately pay off. People go all-out but stock is trading at 1/3 what it was a couple years ago. Hard sometimes to keep the faith.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue and expand on your efforts at robust communications with employees. You've got a loyal base despite the current strong headwinds. They're invested, but want to better understand the thinking behind strategic decisions - and to know that those decisions were careful and deliberate.

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

When I took this sales job I was very excited. Great technology and seemed to be a growing company. They were acquiring products and companies. They took the time to train and get you prepared for the field.

    Cons

Recent acquisitions of Crux IVC filters, Pioneer, and Atheromed were all Bad decisions. It is quite apparent from the Crux and Pioneer acquisitions and sales of this product that upper management has no clue what products to acquire and deliver to the market. Pressure, job threatening, and unattainable quotas are Volcano's core values.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You get your renegotiated golden parachutes when you are acquired in the near future. The soldiers in the field that work their tales off are just hoping not to get laid off. Grow a conscious management! It makes for a better working environment.

    Pros

Interesting work, product has the potential to make a positive impact. Opportunities for international exposure.

    Cons

Morale low; very high turnover in accounting/finance roles resulting in a brain drain. Org chart top-heavy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at Finance management for the underlying reasons for high turnover; many good people are leaving because the tone & culture has taken a huge hit the past couple of years.

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved working for Vickie Wilson, she is extremely intelligent, patient, kind, understanding and yet has is able to take a strong stand when needed. They build medical products that save lives everyday and it is wonderful to be a part of those events. Many other employees and managers will be missed, with a very good group to work with.

    Cons

The company is moving its manufacturing to Costa Rica, therefore eliminating my position. Promotions were very slow in coming, but it was a small company as far as the manufacturing portion of it goes. They are going in Costa Rica with lots of opportunity for the Costa Ricans but not here.

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company employees in Ranch Cordova care and provide expertise and knowledge of system. They are ones who really know how it all works

    Cons

Ranch Cordova is getting strangled - parking lots are 1/3 full and at a time the same work effort from several years back is needed to address technological obsolescence issues and increasing market competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

May be too late but this business is not a growth business. Its a revenue generating business which makes just enough revenue to support sustaining and maintenance. There doesn't seem to be enough market revenue to support growth and still staff up well enough to maintain the products Between that and new healthcare world it is no surprise things are taking forever.

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Volcano work environment was energetic and fast paced.
Strong and aggressive sales & marketing organization consistently grew revenue.

    Cons

Growth opportunities depended on which product you worked.
Volcano had poor track record of commercializing acquired technologies in part because of under-resourcing product development teams.
Many middle managers added little value to Company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Moderate increased staffing levels of product development teams would lead to more commercialization wins. Improved training of middle management would lead to higher retention and better engaged workforce.
