Used to be good company to work for good co-workers, the job is not a hard labor work

Assembler (Current Employee)
Rancho Cordova, CA

I have been working at Volcano Corporation as a contractor for more than 3 years

Prossince I am working in clean room, there was never a heavy lifting jobs; nice people on the lline

Conscompany moving to oversea soon, there's no hope for all of us in manufacturing.

Advice to Senior Managementproduction manager needs to get training on production processes instead of sitting in the office, and find the way firing people.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Exceptional talent, but Engineering is in disarray, direction is lacking.

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Rancho Cordova, CA

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

ProsExcellent math and computer science expertise. The products help people (medical field).

ConsThey do engineering as though they read it in a book somewhere. Basic engineering skills applied in the organization are laughable. Several project leaders and architects do not agree about direction and methodology, and are allowed to run rampant with their own ideas, in different directions.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut somebody in charge, and dictate direction, methodologies used, and teach engineers to be engineers.

Great for cutting-edge engineering and medicine

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
San Diego, CA

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time for less than a year

ProsVolcano covers many aspects of their products: design, manufacturing, sales, etc. so any talented professional will have a role to play. Technology is amazing, sophisticated, and is key to saving lives.

ConsEngineering is an eight-hour drive north of the HQ. Another design team is out east. Software team seemed too eager to apply all the big-time methodologies and best practices, to the point of decreasing their productivity. (But this is not my area of professional expertise, and things may have changed.)

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall, the company was a very nice place to work. Good support from colleagues.

Volcano is one of the worst companies I've ever worked for

Software Engineer II (Former Employee)
Rancho Cordova, CA

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time for more than a year

ProsThere are still a few good people left.

Cons* Upper management that:
    - Is immature, childish, petty, untrustworthy, arrogant, snobbish, and short-sighted.
    - Is unwilling to admit that they're the largest part of the problem.
    - Makes decisions on emotions rather than on data or good business sense.
    - Punishes those who question their points of view or decisions.
    - Believes in platitudes, slogans, and logos over actual change for the better.
    - Doesn't value domain knowledge or technical expertise.
* Middle-managers unable to make decisions for fear of being wrong.
* Culture of fear, blame, and distrust.
* Highly political atmosphere.
* Lack of common vision.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe best thing would be for all of upper management to fire yourselves so that the company could find true leaders and actually succeed.

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time for more than a year

ProsThe team at Volcano is the most highly educated and intelligent I have ever worked with. The company culture is dynamic, and fast paced. But, there is also a family atmosphere. Teamwork at Volcano is key to success.

ConsSometimes it's really too busy :)

Advice to Senior ManagementWe really need more support personnel, like Admins.

Too many of the really good employees leave or get fired...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time

ProsGreat technology, great people - some of the best (until they leave or get fired). Profitable. Mature/successful products.

ConsUltra-exclusive executive "bubble" lavishly self-rewards regardless of performance. Outside the bubble, little (to none) of the success is shared.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop talking so much and listen. Be nice. Share. Fire (or start listening to) whoever is advising you. Acknowledge that it is a problem that so many of your really good employees leave or get fired.

Not a bad place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Volcano Corporation full-time for more than a year

ProsThe people are great and so is middle management. Great product too!

ConsSome members of upper management need to have a reality check; you can't treat your employees like kids and then expect adult reactions. We are all adults, let's behave accordingly.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally look at your teams, not just take the word of the manager that reports to you. Improve the over-all benefits for employees.

It was OK. A bit crazy & unorganized at times....

Engineer (Former Employee)
San Diego, CA

I worked at Volcano Corporation full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat technology. And the people are decent human beings.

ConsI think "crazy & unorganized" says it all. I don't have an opinion "why" that is, or "what they need to do to fix it". It just is.
