I have been working at Volex full-time

    Pros

Been here for 5 many years so it is not bad at all. Opportunities to grow professionally are there. Very active and dynamic company.

    Cons

Too much turnaround. Management team seems to have lost direction and it shows, employees seem unmotivated and insecure because of this.

    Advice to Management

Get your game together, get a plan that actually works.

    Pros

Small company, very dynamic, open to initiatives, re-building and re-branding itself, constantly changing, strong sourcing and presence in exploding business areas.

    Cons

Small company mindset, short-term focus, management with no people-oriented leadership, unsustainable demand on scarce resources, legacy IT systems and processes

    Pros

People in Hickory were helpful and friendly, The insurance coverage became effective immediately and provided good coverage with reasonable premium costs.

    Cons

Open office enviroment with short cubicles. No privacy to talk unless you go to a conference room. BPCS mrp system is a dinosaur to deal with. Jobs have been moved out of the US from the Hickory office to Europe and Mexico.

    Advice to Management

Quit trying to do more with less people. The quallity of the work has decreased and more production problems are created.

I have been working at Volex full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Great career growth when you are in the right department with the right leader. 2. Geographical exposure, plus point for people who love to travel. 3. Able to travel up to 75% despite of tight financial management, as long as departmental budget available. 4. Minimal to no supervision while traveling, as long as you have a supportive line manager. 5. Full reimbursement on travel expenses as long as you know the limits, basically you can enjoy fine dining with wine while travelling. Provided you have a supportive line manager.

    Cons

    1. Frequent change of top management. New CEO bring in Divisional CEOs (Power and Data each) and their management team, then start hiring their friends from various industries but not relevant to current business (customer base/contacts had to build from zero). New hire require longer time to pick up and contribute to the business, usually 6 months and above. 2. Office politics - top management has their inner group members that no one could join in, unless you are their Yes man or their pet. You are not trusted when you are not within their group. 3. Low to no job security - Asking high performer to leave the company. 4. Low morale most of the time - even new hire leave the company within 6 months. 5. Lost track of market price in hiring and placement - Paying lower than market price to loyal employees, new hire was paid at sky high price. 6. Low to no recognition - some employees work hard and spent more hours to make sure operations run well and able to deliver quality service and product to customers, but all the hard work wasn't recognized but still earning lower than market price. But those does nothing or minimal work earns big bucks. 7. Poor internal communication - you will never know what happen until it hits you. 8. Outdated employee benefit - HR policy and employee benefit was back dated to year 2000 while some of the countries was a manufacturing plant 15 years ago but it is an Asia HQ in Singapore now. Managers and fresh graduates having the same level of annual leave entitlement as an example. 9. Everyone has been overworked, devoted most of their time and energy but not being recognized by Management. 10. No loyalty needed - employees has been with company more than 20 years but their loyalty wasn't recognized or appreciated, not even any long service award. Management can ask you to go anytime. 11. Management tend to always get around with the Standard Procedures and Policies - trying to go against the standards and policies by using their rank power and relationship, while the rest of the employees had to remain silent.

    Advice to Management

Not much can be advised unless current Management scheme is dissolved, then organization will be able to focus more on growth, otherwise it will continue to be in survival mode. Remove VP and Directors to reduce operation cost but to hire Executives and Managers that really get to the ground and work for it.

I have been working at Volex full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, great exposure and career progression.

    Cons

HR policies and benefits not reviewed since years ago, salary no longer follow market rate, Global HR presence but they have not look into individual company policies and benefits, everyone is too busy with their tasks and never have much time to build better relationship. Promotions always being delayed and only happens once a year, not fair to performers.

    Advice to Management

Seriously look into retain talents before they leave the company, communication from the management to the floor needs to be improve greatly. No action been done after suggestion/feedback made.

I worked at Volex full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary Remuneration is fair. Collaborations with inter-dept can be friendly, if you play the cards right. Timeline on tasks given is reasonable.

    Cons

Top management is shaky, but has since been entirely replaced. Business is currently facing challenges with share price tumbling. I expect forthcoming intense pressure to turn the ship around. Employee benefits and HR presence in Singapore almost non existent.

    Advice to Management

I sincerely wish management and all my friends in Volex good luck. I'm sure you guys can do it! Install HR presence in Singapore office.
