Pros
I worked for Volt for 3 contracts at Microsoft and they were relatively easy to deal with. Mostly they just send checks. I did appreciate the time they took for a small mini review as it provided information about job performance from the client and gave insight on how to improve. At least up until 2010 they offered matching 401k (not sure if that is still the case)
Cons
Their health insurance wasn't that great. They lost a lot of contracts between 2009-2010 and now seem to have a much smaller office. Recruiters don't work hard to place you in non-Microsoft positions during the mandatory 100 day contract break. Once you have contracted at Microsoft it seems like they want to keep you there. That seems to be how most agencies operate though.
Advice to Senior Management
Have recruiters work harder to place employees after contracts end.
Pros
The upper level testers and managers were very nice and understanding. It was a great work environment, and also had free soda.
Cons
The hours were not dependable, and there was no guarantee that you would work on any given day, due to the waiting list.
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure that people that are called in to work will be guaranteed employment for that day, so no one drives up only to be turned away.
Pros
They are pretty much the only game in town, if you can consider that a Pro
Cons
They pretty much have cournered the market so to speak with contracts at various companies, and they know this full well. This gives them the ability to offer very low pay while making a ton of monay of theri contracted labour
Advice to Senior Management
pay your employees what they are worth, instead of seeing how much you can make off of them.
Pros
No supervision and very little attention to detail
Cons
Very poor employee and employer relations
Advice to Senior Management
Go to college
Pros
Its a large, worldwide organization, so there is potential for moving upward in the ranks
Original founder still involved after more than 50 years
Cons
-If you strive for mediocrity, this is the place to work. In my experience, far too many employees do little, or even nothing on the job; yet are not counseled, reprimanded, or terminated.
- compensation levels are very low
- management more concerned with the appearance of workplace than with the actual state of affairs
- they provide a lot of training, but its almost worthless - they need to train people how to sell, how to price their services for a profit margin, and how to provide solid and respectable customer service. Instead it feels more like a cheerleading camp "lets go Volt!"
- company cares more about the shareholders (founder and his family control 50% or so of the company), than about employees
- customer service is pronounced a major concern, however I experience little mid or upper level management concern for their clients, except for Microsoft.
- I would only recommend that you work there if you are a bad employee, that way my current company can rest easy knowing Volt will never be a competitive concern
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of dead wood, and pay the true performers better so they dont move to another organization.
Either train sales and mid-level managers how to perform better, or pay what it requires to get people who are already proven in their field.
Pros
Good atmosphere
Lots of freedom to do what you want
flexible in hours/schedule
Cons
No benefits whatsoever
No face to face time with management/HR/co-workers
Communication is scarce
Advice to Senior Management
Be more vocal/active with the employees, offer more benefits and long-term goals, and don't be afraid to talk to employees.
Pros
Great people to work with as co-workers
Good work environment
Cons
Inexperienced direct manager
Poor internal tooling for sourcing candidates
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the internal systems big time and pay for employees to use LinkedIn.
Pros
Volt Workforce Solutions is an employment agency. The pay scale was good for the assignment I took and they placed me with a company who routinely hires temps in permanent positions.
Cons
Benefits are horrible which is typical for an agency
two of the recruiters are rude
Some of the recruiters don't work hard enough to sell and promote candidates
If a candidate doesn't fit into a specific box, the recruiters don't waste their time. Some recruiters are only concerned about making their numbers and quotas rather than sincerely finding jobs for qualified candidates
Advice to Senior Management
Train recruiters to think outside the box and be creative in going out and finding jobs for qualified candidates rather than fitting candidates into only what you have available
Offer major medical plans and benefits comparable to the companies you send temps to
Train recruiters to be sensitive to temps who may be crisis rather than ignoring them or making it difficult for them to get hired because of their circumstances
Pros
the vacation and benefits are a good reason to work for Volt. There are many senior managers who have been with the company for several years and can provide support
Cons
the team work is very poor at Volt. Over acheivers tend to stay amongst themselves, and do not share any info to get ahead.
Advice to Senior Management
Get some new people to run the show in the recruiting division. The management is extremely poor and everyone is focused in only making money.
Pros
Volt offers a range of job types with multiple locations across America. They also offer a good pay package and have convenient and flexible work hours.
Cons
The benefits package is some what inept with zero paid vacation except national holidays, and semi decent medical and dental healthcare.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be more feedback from upper management in terms of our performance and wha our goals and expectations are.
