The biggest "small business" out there.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Volt Information full-time for more than 3 years

ProsVolt is truly the biggest "small business" I know. So much potential for growth and connection with senior leadership. Years spent hear rival decades at larger companies in terms of exposure to complex and challenging assignments.

ConsSome employees insist on working remotely, which lowers morale.

Advice to Senior ManagementCome into work everyday. The best place to have important conversations isn't over email.

Staffing company

Company Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Volt Information as a contractor for more than a year

ProsThey help staff big name companies with contract/temp workers. I only spoke with Volt before and after the contract was over.

No More Than a Pimp

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
Maplewood, MN

I have been working at Volt Information as a contractor for more than 8 years

ProsIf all you want is a paycheck, this is the company for you.

ConsAfter nearly 10 years in the same position I am no better off than someone who started a week ago. There is no contact with Volt Reps (and they are on-site) unless you initiate it. The health insurance plan we are offered is a farce. Of course, no vacation or retirement plans, and they have begun the process of eliminating paid holidays as well.

My management (corporate employees) at this very large international corporation have always been very happy with my work, and have given me great reviews (process initiated by me, never by Volt). Unfortunately, as "contingent" employees we don't appear in the headcount, and won't be hired by the Corporation.

There are reasons I haven't left before this, but the end is now in sight.

If you decide to work for Volt, expect nothing, and you won't be disappointed.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees in long-term positions should not be treated like 2-week temporaries.

Typical large corporation; some flaws, but general stability

Branch Administrator (Former Employee)
Woburn, MA

I worked at Volt Information full-time for more than a year

ProsBranch offices are kept generally small, creating a strong team environment with your co-workers. Ability to transfer/travel between branches, or work onsite with large customers.

ConsSome dysfunction/inconsistencies between regions and offices make streamlined procedures difficult. Lack of training creates problems with offices where administrators are not willing to learn on their own.

Advice to Senior ManagementBranch audits and compliance checks would ensure consistency from branch to branch. A better structure for branch administration would create a better training/growth path; there should be a receptionist/admin assistant at the front of the office to greet and do basic administrative duties, who would learn and grow into Branch Admin role when the existing BA moved into another position.

Once an empire, now in rubbles

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Kirkland, WA

I have been working at Volt Information

ProsVolt has some great managers who are the best in buisiness at managing people. At large the recruiting database is constantly expanding and provides a ton of options. You are able to contriol your own financial destiny recruiting with commisions.

ConsRaises are not common. Threatening to leave is about the only way. Performance management reviews are not even taken seriously and hold no merit. The only way to get promoted is if someone leaves or retires or dies.

Upper management communication seems absent to ground level employees and managers.
and decisons get made without researching or getting advise from the people who are at ground level whose jobs will be affected. Accountants making marketing decisons at the executive level that have led to detrimental effects not only the company being delisted from the NYSE but also undermined buisiness in several of the most profitable buisiness sectors VOLT had been dominant in in the past decade.

Volts reputation is suffering as a result.

The choice to cut smaller support groups and use a centralize departments with less paid payroll staff and administrive staff for the whole country has led to more communication issues than money can justify.

Turnover is rampant.

Staffing side

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Parsippany, NJ

I worked at Volt Information full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWork with a lot of big companies...

ConsToo much shifting of upper management- the CEO, EVP, and a few other upper management roles "retired" one day randomly. Unstable environment, poor training, poor leadership, inadequate resources, and lack of morals. The throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks mentality due to silly metrics.

Advice to Senior Managementhold on... hopefully you don't "retire" soon.
