I have been working at Volvo Aero Services

    Pros

    Low pressure
Educational as far as the industry is concerned.
    Decent benefits.

    Cons

Lack of direction, the company continuously makes promises it cannot keep, and then slaughters its employees in vain attempts to make the impossible reality.
Lack of management trust in employees. The management team rarely heeds advice from experts within the company, creating more of the above.
Compensation is poor with COL increases far below living cuts. Most employees LOSE buying power each year with a 1-2% gain in an area that living costs grow 6-7% per year.
No bonus or commission program for anything. Projects flounder and die because nobody owns them or benefits from their success.
Severe conflict of interest with one of the investors who is also a board member. Forces projects within the company that only benefit his investment, creates havoc for personal gain at the determent of the rest of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it simple, stop coming up with ill researched ideas.
Focus on the basic business model of distributing surplus parts. Forget the "flavor of the week" projects like cost per flight hour, total support and repair management.

I have been working at Volvo Aero Services

    Pros

    Great people and family atmosphere
    Low pressure environment
Volvo brand offers great training opportunities and possibly movement within Volvo group.

    Cons

Company still trying to dig out from underneath poor strategy decisions from earlier in their life.
Sitting on lots of bad inventory they can't get rid of and need to write down.
They sign bad deals and do not have effective way to measure profitability.
Overall strategy seems to shift every few years.
They suffer from "tenure" syndrome. Some people have been there way too long and are resistant to change, hurting the growth prospects. Hard to let them go since they know the business inside and out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some serious introspection is required for you to reinvent yourself. A shake up at the top is mandatory. Some of the key players have been there way too long and some fresh blood and thinking is needed. You MUST move to a commission based pay structure for your sales people and key projects must be run by the business folks with their compensation tied to the success of the project. No one owns anything which is why most initiatives fail. Trying to outdo ILS is a fool's errand.
