    Pros

Good projects, great people, company is much less stressful than most. Opportunities to participate on global projects and travel to other parts of the world. People seem to genuinely enjoy their work.

    Cons

Can move very slowly sometimes. Depending on your location, advancement can be very slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dont just talk about being global. Encourage positions to be filled by the best candidates, no matter where in the world they are. Its very demovitating to employees to work hard to be recognized, and then have little or no opportunities.

    Pros

The technologies were very interesting as well as working globally with teams in Sweden and France. The company culture was family oriented and it certainly would never be considered a sweat shop.

    Cons

Maybe because the culture was so layed back it seemed to be acceptable if deadlines were not met. Much of the management seems to be promoted from within and seem to lack some real world experience and in many cases seemed to be promoted for the commitment to the company rather than on their management ability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

invest in some key management personal

    Pros

Great benifits. Good people. Great opportunities within the company...travel opportunities if you want...jobs changes within company if you want. Volvo want's to do what it can to keep good people.

    Cons

Sometimes the cultural differences between Sweden and North American can be difficult at times. Volvo Sweden seems to forget when our holidays are here and schedules meeting regardless.

    Pros

    Great and talented co-workers.
    Environment supporting development and growth.
    Flexible working houirs.
    Occasional telecommuting possibility.

    Cons

Salaries not catching up with experience of growing employees.
Salaries in general slightly below market average.
    Corporate inertia levels are high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Well performing employees tend to be not recognized for their accomplishements and ability to go an 'extra mile'. I think this could be improved, e.g. by granting bonuses based on team accomplishements, instead only company financial metrics.

Working in Volvo IT - good for work life balance but no career growth

    Pros

Good company to work if you are looking for work life balance. Company Policies are good for employees for those who wants to focus on their family life more.

    Cons

Most of the projects are running on legacy technologies. So, if you are looking for working on cutting edge technologies, no chance.
No chance of progress in career, as most of the time you have to work on Support Projects. Development is mainly done by Swedish team, sometime they offload a small fraction of the work. You are lucky if you get a Development Project.
Only the people close with the managers get promotions.
Onsite opportunities are a very rare event. Only the employees having very good relation with managers gets the onsite training facilities. And in the name of cost cutting management has reduced the travels as minimum as possible.
Volvo IT is dependent heavily on 3rd party employees called consultant whom they hire for short term basis from other companies, but most of them work for Volvo IT forever. This results in the project knowledge remains with them and they do not want to share the knowledge. So when you are new to a project it is very hard to gain knowledge about the project.
Volvo IT can offer only work life balance not career growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to depend less on 3rd party employee and focus on building a good team with Volvo employees on payroll.

Current Employee - Senior Engineer for III Years  in  Bangalore (India)
Current Employee - Senior Engineer for III Years in Bangalore (India)

    Pros

Good exposure for freshers and 2-3 years experienced candidates.
Salaries have been revised for freshers.
Not much of work pressure, Hence termed as "Work Life Balance"

    Cons

Hell lot of politics especially in some Teams such as Unix & SAP
No Equality and Fairness to employees
Growth Severely Depends on the amount of Showoff that is done for a small job and not for the real job.
Salaries for the experienced people are terribly low compared to consultants.
New technologies are adapted very late. and only managers pets get to work on latest tech and trainings.
expect you to stay for 1 year after a KT or give 4 months notice period after a onsite travel for 2-3 weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Equality, Justice, Fairness and give a chance to all employees.

    Pros

I consider this is a good place to learn because, it has no concept of work. Lot of work. Very less leisure time. Decent salary. Best to be a permanent employee than a consultant from Magna. People are kind and helping and very friendly.

    Cons

Volvo has started a organizational changes where it has announced cost cutting, lay offs, and no team outings, no cultural events, no recreational activities, no food, it has stopped giving snacks, probably it will soon stop providing drinking water.
I have been working here for three years and lot of changes have happened since two years. I had given a 5 star rating for this company two years ago. but now i am giving only one star for what it has become.
The culture of volvo has been destroyed after the organisational structure changes.
Managers are less responsible. They do not take actions for concerns from employees.
Its not a HR driven company. Managers rule the company.
HRs a re very slow in processing any work.
It doesnt work like a product company nor completely like a service company. Its hanging somewhere in the middle.
I only hope it gets better after few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish it works the way it used to work two years ago.
