Pros
interesting place to work for, people there are very kind and professional, knows their business and is leading the industry
Cons
lack some key variables such as communication between different departments, technology applied to manufacturing is high but low on supporting teams like logistics and transportations
Advice to Senior Management
could be more accessible in terms of communication and providing more cross departments supports, overall a very nice place to work for
Pros
Volvo is a stylish company that you can feel proud of saying that you work for...People dress well, offices and people are well-appointed and groomed. Even break areas have a high-end sense of style which is very pleasant to be around, and carries into an overall pride in sense of style as an automotive design and production company. The quality of product and service is something to be proud to represent as well.
Cons
I believe this is one of those companies where people are very competent but so worried about getting fired or replaced that their need to seem perfect keeps them from making wise choices.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just swing by to show off your fancy clothes and expensive snacks - really slow down your visits to observe what your middle management is doing - your presence could really help weed out some unnecessary fear among them, and a few very bad eggs who are not out for the good of the company as much as getting themselves promoted personally. Employees will work better if they are a little more relaxed, and middle management is passing a lot of unfocused stress down the chain.
Pros
Domain exposure
direct interaction with end user
Cons
no IT company like policies
Colleagues are more egoistic than result focused.
Advice to Senior Management
start treating every dept as unique and cater to its needs.
Try to better leverage possibilities by making teams work like ONE Volvo than in silo's , BA/BU concepts.. establish avenues for communications from anyone at anytime , in short a open door policy
Last but not the least , find ways to flatten the organization.. its growing in size in the middle but with no good results.
Pros
volvo brand a super brand ;good experience.
Cons
volvoce peenya managaemnt is bad ; you have to satisfy the ego's of the less knowledgable bosses ; iAfter volvo took over Ingersoll Rand , all old guys are still with volvo , they are not great but they expect you to lick their boots
Advice to Senior Management
no advice ,
Pros
You can certainly advance within the Volvo Group e.g. Volvo Parts, Volvo IT, etc. Non Automotive Purchasing is only one organization within Volvo Group.
Cons
USA employees have to follow globabl directives. No advancement opportunities within the local organization. Very high focus on cost savings. No bonus.
Advice to Senior Management
Trust your employees judgement. Global does not always know what local people know.
Pros
Strategically the company is run very well financially.. Volvo is methodical in decision making to best balance profit, customer service, growth and employee satisfaction..
Cons
Career development is talked about or limited to specific category of people to meet quota requirements.
Advice to Senior Management
Great hidden talent within the ranks of workers who are held back by lack of developmental policies that would promote growth and career development. All talk but little action.
Pros
I really like the way Volvo executed projects. There was always an avenue to approach upper management. I liked the way they handled difficult situations.
Cons
Volvo bought out Mack Trucks Inc. Therefore I had two headquarters to report and recieve requests. There seemed to be an internal competition as to who knew the best way. I was caught in the middle of the conflict.
Advice to Senior Management
The mainframe systems at my location were being phased out. I did not see any opportunity for the future. I really liked Volvo alot, but there should have been an avenue for me to pursue with them.
Pros
Very good life and work balance, good career progression opportunities if you wish to progress.
Cons
Bad communication at the time of crisis, sometimes bad leadership
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better, especially at the time of crisis.
Pros
Great work environment with top notch management and employees. Flex work schedule. Always room to grow and handle the projects you look forward to.
Cons
The location is probably not the best but I can live with it. Other than that I really dont have anything bad to say.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work. ...... . .. . . . . . . . . . .. . ..
Pros
The regional opportunities available to employees help to provide career development ops. People there are generally friendly and working environment is pleasant.
Cons
A place that values experience, and hence younger generation have less recognition and chance for promotions and salary increments. Not market competitive.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe its a culture of the company that has most older generation leading the company. However, it is advisable to relook at the organization for opportunities for re-development.
