I have been working at Vonage

    Pros

Good cafeteria, flexible scheduling (IF you get a high enough review score from your management)

    Cons

Sleazy HR practices, non payment of vacation/sick time upon giving notice for leaving, management hides major developments from lower-level employees, sense of pride in company is severely lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your employees more involved in your development and decision process. At least listen to their input and show their voice is not meaningless.

I worked at Vonage full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Plenty of personal time
    - Gym
    - Meal card
    - Decently strong middle management

    Cons

    - Growth is from internal down sizing
    - Lack of opportunity to grow
    - Work flows in while workforce flows out
    - Culture was good, recent mgmt changes are bringing pressure resulting in a more selfish less united workforce. Everyone hustling to save themselves. Pushing to collapse work not to be more efficient, but to remove headcount to save a buck.
    - Groups working in silos, push back around every corner
    - Salary is good at higher levels, the majority are under market value. Outside coming in benefit greatly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back a sense of job security, a stronger vision for the future and break down silos. Constant downsizing, no new blood and lack of opportunity needs to be a priority.

    I worked at Vonage

    Pros

not much other then a warm building and a steady salary

    Cons

constant changing shift. lunch could be 6 to 8 hours after you began your shift. First break often 6 hours after you start. Bathroom breaks non existant. If you were 5 min late you it counted as a "event"
If you called in sick you got an event.
5 events and you were gone.
Working conditions were horrible! Equipment failure was a constant. Managers will tell you to lie to the customer about products when asked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    treat the reps with respect

    Good work environment, decent pay

I worked at Vonage full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

We were giving an ample training program (paid) as well as a lunch allowance with a starbucks available in the building as well. The work itself is not especially difficult and the management seemed to engage with employees.

    Cons

Certain policies regarding customers and their problems were seemingly bad for long term relationships. Seem like shortsighted profit growth over long term customer retention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better understanding of customer issues with service and better education on how to provide a lasting fix that creates long term dedication from customers to the Vonage service over a money grab.

    Pros

Growing company. Great concept. Provides lunch. Great environment. Good teammates. A good place to start a career.

    Cons

Career growth can be challenging. Outsourced most call center people. Some team leads can manage better and be more personable.

I worked at Vonage full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

My early years were great, where it was definitely an environment of fun and team.
Most of the people are great and fun to work with.
They sometimes provide activities & events to lift morale.
    Decent benefits and vacation days.
    Community Volunteer program.
Onsite Cafeteria w/$100 monthly meal allowance (although, you will grow tired of the food very quickly because it's the same menu every month)

    Cons

If you are promoted from within, you will be grossly underpaid. HR will acknowledge that you are underpaid, but then never do anything to correct your paycheck. Positions aren't given to the best candidates, instead promotions are handled politically.

Lack of communication across the company, especially to the Care Organization when products are being launched, which often lead to poor rushed roll outs where most individuals are not prepared because most information is missing up until a few days before roll out.

The company claims to take employee feedback, but I couldn't tell you the last time I saw an employee suggestion that was acted upon. There's an annual "Great Place to Work" Survey, which most people are told how to answer.

Management does not always appear to support the worker or their growth. You will be given a yearly goal to improve your skills, however when you present your manager with options, they are often declined because of budgetary reason and are instead told to just read articles on the internet

The only way the company is able to make money is to consistently raise prices on existing customers. Poor marketing department that doesn't know how to attract new customers, which is causing tenured customers to leave due to raising rates. It's like they don't understand how business works.

A LOT of layoffs recently, and the process by which people are laid off appears backwards. Many of the harder workers with strong work ethics are laid off, while the people whose job function you couldn't explain no matter how hard you try because it's a made-up role or people who truly are poor performers are kept on board. When they let you go, they tell you that you no longer match the job description, but when you ask for the new job description, it's what you are currently doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at the entire organization - do you really have the right people in the right roles? (The answer is No)

Re-evaluate your marketing program and learn how your consumers really utilize phone service in this day-and-age.

If you are going to do layoffs, lay off the correct people - there are plenty of people there who don't bring value to the organization.
