Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
We have a Very good team!
Cons
The company and all its sites Old school.
Pros
- Low politics
- People work together
- Friendly environment
Cons
- Shutting down the engineering department
- Outsourcing engineering to India
- Lack of analysis tools causes engineering costs to be so high that the company cannot win bids
Advice to Senior Management
- Rather than outsourcing to India get some REAL methods tools to get your engineering hours down.
- If you can get your engineers working more efficiently you will be able to offer more competitive bids.
Pros
Job stability, benefits are good. Laid back and not a lot of overtime. My coworkers are fun to work with.
Cons
There is a lot of non standardized processes that slow work and functionality down. We have new computer systems that haven't been fully integrated.
Pros
Good salary for local area
Cons
Communication, respect, poor performance feedback (nobody gets a "5")
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your subject matter experts. they're telling you the things that will help you.
Pros
Good place to work for.
Well run company
Cons
less chance for growth
HR is not helpful.
Advice to Senior Management
focus on the business growth and less on cost cutting.
Pros
The people are overall friendly and the company is starting to make changes to modernize. People are helpful when you ask for it, otherwise it is kind of a quiet workplace
Cons
Training was non-existent. I was an intern and you would think they would be interested in training me to hopefully get hired on fulltime at some point, but my training consisted of 2 hours of being shown a powerpoint and telling myself to familiarize myself with hundreds of pages of procurement procedures.
Advice to Senior Management
More formal training processes. Get some newer systems. the company has a hard time changing, especially with their IT systems.
Pros
Complete individual medical and dental benefits available available for very low cost
Good retirement package w/ default company contribution plus company match
Cons
Entrenched Senior Management refuses to diversify product portfolio
Advice to Senior Management
Get involved with more than one massive customer
Pros
Fairly laid back working environment.
Plenty of overtime opportunities even as an intern (at least when I was there).
Fair overtime pay.
Fairly important work given to interns.
Cons
Perceived expectation from managers to work a lot of overtime (up to 70 hours per week).
You'll need the overtime because the regular pay isn't that competitive.
Interesting (dysfunctional) dynamic between direct employees and contractors.
Advice to Senior Management
Immediate leadership overall wasn't too bad based on my limited experience (summer internship). There obviously were problems with upper management getting their contractual obligations filled, though. I would suggest better compensation for direct employees and less reliance on generally less productive contract labor.
