    I worked at Vroman's Bookstore

    Pros

My coworkers were fantastic; smart and always helpful. They made me look forward to coming in. The 30% discount is great for book lovers. Also, Vroman's tends to promote from within, so the opportunities are good.

    Cons

It's an independent bookstore, so salaries are not great. Raises are almost nonexistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope business picks up, and that that translates into better salaries.

I worked at Vroman's Bookstore full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Meeting lots of interesting people, working with books, learning about the industry. It's a great environment to move up into supervision/management, and you learn a lot about how to manage staff. It's also great contributing to the legacy of a 100+ year-old independent business. Plus, BOOKS!!

    Cons

Retail is tough! Very strict attendance policy, but necessary in a retail environment. Getting time off approved can be tricky, but again, that's retail. Some employees bristled at the structure of policies and procedures and felt it was too "corporate", but I felt it was needed to keep a store of that size running smoothly.

    I worked at Vroman's Bookstore

    Pros

They will try to work with your schedule and they give a small employ discount. They also pay you for the time you spend at small work "meetings".

    Cons

There is no employ parking they suggest you park at target and walk through the store so you wont get a parking ticket before going into your shift. Most of the managers are young inexperienced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reevaluate management and start a new "work plan" because the one in use now is not in use properly and causing more problems.
