I worked at W.G. Yates & Sons Construction full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fair pay , some good people , my own truck and tools . Very safe place to work with a open door policy anytime

    Cons

Some not so good people . Very easy to become just a number . Layoffs come very fast and without warning and very hard to get back on . They are a general contractor and man a lot of their work with subs

    Advice to Management

Do more in house work , call back people that work hard for you and think about the little man more . Wage freeze really suck

    Pros

Company used to be proactive regarding employees. Former manager was the reason for the "Pro" comment.

    Cons

Recent change in management has caused the working atmosphere and benefits to decline significantly. No support from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Hire a professional manager to help straighten out the reputation of the company. This starts with making employees a higher priority.

I worked at W.G. Yates & Sons Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I couldn't have believed a construction office could survive any amount of time under the leadership that was in place at the time. So, I suppose that was an interesting lesson, and I use that info in my current job.

    Cons

Incredibly poor management. Dictatorial environment. Incompetence covered with more incompetence. Uncaring upper management.

    Advice to Management

I know changes have been made locally. I just couldn't wait for them. My advice to upper management would be to get to know the folks in these far away office, to treat them as peers, not just profit centers, and stay engaged!
