    Leaning experience is self motivation.

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsGood place to work. Need more degreed employees. High level of self initiative. One must constanly be in the learning mode.

ConsNone at this point so far. Educational support can be improved upon. No limit on amount of time for completion.

Advice to Senior ManagementSalary. Grace needs to identify true market values for all positions. Should be linked to region and not specific location. Manufacturing can be located in an isolated community. This should not lower the wage for the job. Incentive programs should be based on infdividual performance. Specific goals should be attainable. Payout in a timely fashion. Quatery reviews recommended for all employees.

My experience with W.R.Grace was very fulfilling

    Intern (Current Employee)
    Lake Charles, LA

ProsGrace is a very safe place to work. The corporate culture is also very pleasant. Good place to start your career.

ConsGrace is a small plant so there is little room for advancement. Many of the engineers don't want to leave so the positions become stagnant.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would advise Grace to implement a mentoring program. Move their employees around more to create opportunity.

For the most part a good experience.

    Sales Manager (Current Employee)
    Cambridge, MA

ProsThe opportunity to work in a structured enviroment where training and education for their employees was first and foremost. Very big on training and education for all levels of personnel.

ConsDisappointed with the promotional aspects as it seemed to a fast track to those that were on the inside track or had mentors that further those individuals careers.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would make sure that the opportunities that are offered to the entire organization is done with merit and achievement.

    Pressure!

    Chemist (Current Employee)
    Hesperia, CA

ProsWage and benefites are the highest around. Grace tries to provide a safe and injury free workplace and puts safety first.

ConsTrying to share information between divisions is almost impossible Communication is extremely poor between management and employeesTreatment of disabled employeess is bad!

Advice to Senior ManagementThe Management needs to listen more to employees and input that would help company run better and smoth between divisions.

    Well Steered Ship

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Cambridge, MA

ProsFor those people focused on management of an existing product-line, W.R. Grace is a great company to work for. It has a very good focus on ensuring that products and services exceed the market norms.

ConsChange is either too slow or too rapid. Those who are trying to implement long-term strategic changes find resources are lacking and resistance at all turns. Meanwhile, projects which have the ability to extract shareholder value are steam-rollered through the organization. If you cannot take the punches... don't work her.

Advice to Senior ManagementPick a handful of strategic goals, supply them with sufficient resources to succeed and communicate where you are taking the company.

The Internship Position at Grace Davison

    R&D Intern (Current Employee)
    Baltimore, MD

ProsThis internship position in particular has been a great experience. Grace is a big chemicals company, with opportunities in lots of different areas. You really get experience in a range of fields and then you can choose what you want to focus on.

ConsThey are very fixed in their way of doing things. They have had business in a variety of processes for a very long time and maybe it's just because I work in R&D, but it seems as though they don't particularly like change...

Advice to Senior ManagementI have nothing back to say about the leadership at Grace. They are running a great internship program - better than many of their competitor chemicals companies.
